My GE double oven is flashing F1 and beeping

My upper oven flashes F1 and beeps continuously. I did everything the manual suggested including disconnecting and reconnecting the power...still beeps and flashes F1. I would rather not call in an expensive repair person if I can do it myself! Help!

Well, crud! No matter what I did I couldn't get the front panel off! I took out every screw I could find, tried to push it up, etc. The touchpanel has a metal border all the way around it that will not budge. Here's a photo (I promise my oven does not look this dirty in person!). Any ideas?

I turn the oven on, set the temperature, the oven comes on warms up and then beeps and turns off. F1 flashes on the display. Repeated attempts do not work either. What can I do?

The F1 error is similar to the F7 error and the fix may be similar. It indicates that the touchpanel needs to be replaced. The problem is really one where the insulation is breaking down between two sections of the ribbon cable which connects the touchpanel to the electronic control. I have solved the problem by placing slip of paper between the two secions of the ribbon cable. The slip of paper should be worked down into the slot. It will only go about 1/8". A piece of file card material works well. See attachec photo. If you have a metal touchpanel, you will also have to add slips of paper at the edges of the metal slot. __Be sure and turn off the power to the oven at your circuit breaker!____There are usually three small screws at the bottom of the touchpanel. The panel may need to be pushed upward to release it. Have a friend available to hold the panel while you work on it. Do not allow the panel to dangle by the wires.____Please let me know if this works for you or if you have any questions. You can reach me at [email protected]. I have shared this solution with over 830 folks. Most report success.

My F1 began beeping incessantly this month after a gradual increase in sensed ambient temperature over about a year.  If the oven was turned off, it would beep no matter what I did to try to clear the fault.  I actually had to turn off the power at the fuse box to make the beeping stop, - or I could turn on the oven and just leave it at 150º if I wasn't using it, which would also make it stop. The heating elements were not kicking in until the setting was over 185º, which was the gradually developing problem over about a year.  It was getting so we had to turn the oven all the way up to 550º just to get it to 375º.  I thought it was the temp sensor so I replaced it, but that had no effect.  Then I bought a new module by calling the GE Number in the manual for parts, and it came in 2 days, and I installed it, and it works fine now.  Cost of module: incl shipping / tax: $308    I re-installed and am still using the old temp sensor.   If you unscrew the top two screws on the grey sheet-steel flange that screw into your cabinetry, the whole oven slides out of the wall opening. Get a dolly and some supports and you can pull it completely out of the wall and roll it arround for access to the back.  To replace the module, you only have to slide the oven  about 3/4ths of the way out, then you could unscrew the sheet metal screws at the middle of the top panel and just work underneath the lifted sheet metal.   Be sure and take the doors off!

Image of unmounted module - 4 screws, a ground screw, and a ribbon cable must be disconnected to get to this stage.Ā  Mark all wires with labels of connections marked on panel, such as "L1, BR, BA, GND, N, etc..."Ā  The new module will have them labeled, but probably in different locations, and different "E#'s. There are 7 spade connectors, plus the connector on the far right that will complete the disconnection from this point.Ā  Be careful with the ribbon cable that goes to the touchpanel. It is delicate. To disconnect, pull out the the sliding catch on the panel connector by squeezing the tabs at the top. To reinstall, line up the two small holes in the cable with the stops on the connector.Ā  Slide the catch back in till it snaps. Don't try to pull the ribbon cable connector off the board.

F-1 IS EITHER THE KEY OR CONTROL PANEL. DISCONNECT THE RIBBON FOR 32 SECONDS. IF THE F1 LIGHTS UP AGAIN IT IS THE CONTROL PANEL
