We've changed all of the toners including the black. We get no error messages. I've Run the Cartridge Disable diagnostic and put the black cartridge in to ever coloured spot and run a test page. It works fine. I then put the coloured toners in the black ran a test page each time and could see the colour fine. I am yet to contact IT to ask to run firmware. We were having the issue before we replaced the toners. The printer is out of service warranty. I have tried everything else I can find. Any solutions?
1. Go to menu set as default.
2. Do color calibration.
3. Print PQ test pages, observe the colors, chk
4. Print demo page. chk
5. Print from different file/system..
Hi I tried all of the above and no luck. I only realised yesterday that some computers linked to the printer via network can still print colour. But it seems strange that the printer itself won't. Our IT department has told us to buy a new printer. Not sure if there is a firmware issue. But not a lot I can do. Thanks for all your help.
I am sure that I can run it, pl give me some more time as its its 4.30 am in India, mail me: [email protected]

SOURCE: Cartridge problem
the problem is that even if you dont use the color supplies they do have a life cycle clock, you could try reseating the cartridge but i doubt that will work. what needs to happen is that the chips need to be reset or replaced on the color cartridges, its cyan now soon it will be yellow and then magenta. you can 1) replace the cartridges with new ones orr 2) have a cartridge refill place replace the chips on them. they dont need to be refilled unless the toner from age and humidity became soild. what most people dont understand is that if all you print is black then dont buy a color laser printer. toner over time can become a soild chunk and ruin your cartridge. most laser cartridges have a 2 year shelf life thats seald in a air and water tight bag in open air the toner starts pulling in the humid air and starts to become soild, this can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few years.

SOURCE: HP 3310 - problem with black ink supply
I heard you can get the 3310 to do a pump up the tubes cycle but i don't know how to make it do it. Pressing the ok and cancel buttons when you power up didn't work for my machine. Which has too died a inkless black death!

I think I know what is the problem. I refilled my black ink cartridge and it printed for a while, but at some point it just stopped working. The head wouldn't touch the paper. Initially I thought the printer had a problem, but then I discovered that the color cartridge still worked.I had a spare new cartridge so I changed it. Everything worked just fine afterwards. My hypothesis is that HP tracks an identifier in the cartridge and does NOT allow you to refill (I even think they simulate for the cartridge to be failing, but I still have to corroborate this). I think this is outrageous and illegal. Please let other people with the same problem know about it. So, the solution is to stop using HP products.

i had the same problem. black stopped printing. i always used OFFICIAL HP cardridges, so this problem is not exclusive for refilled cardridges.
This solution (offered here) worked for me:
Reset the system by holding down the OK, Cancel, Black, and Color buttons down at the same time and turn the 3310 off. Keep holding the buttons down until the printer shuts off and the turn it back on. You will have to turn the printer off twice and then it will recalibrate. Make sure you have new cartiges in the printer so that it can reset.
I wanted to stress that you should make sure that:
1) you keep the the buttons down untill it shuts off;
2) on restart you get a notification of service;
3) to turn it off again after service before you turn it on for actual use.
