Hello, I have a connection through my wireless network, hwever I cannot open any websites through Internet Explorer. Please help Shane

  • shanesutton7 Jan 11, 2009

    Hi mate,

I am not sure about firefox but I do know that I have a connection to the internet.

It seems to be like some sort of firewall blocking anything to do with opening up an internet page.

When I first uploaded my wireless card etc from my ISP the internet worked fine. I had not used my computer for a while and my Mcafee was out of date, I thought that may be blocking it. I removed the Mcafee and still cannot open a website.

I am certain that I am connected to the internet, as I have a strong signal and it says connected.

It is like something simple that I am not aware of not allowing me to open a site.

    Please help

    Thanks in advance

    Shane

Still Having Trouble with Wireless Network

Hi ther Jeff!

Let's check the IP address of the laptop. You said that it is connected to the wireless network "linksys". Go back to Control Panel>Network connections. Right click on wireless network connection then click Status. Then, click on Support tab and tell me the IP address you have in there. Click details to get the DNS server addresses.

Let me know these information. You are right, there could be proxy servers enabled in the browser that's preventing you to open a website. What version of IE are you using?

On your IE browser, click TOOLS>INTERNET OPTIONS>CONNECTIONS. From Connections tab, click on LAN Settings. Make sure that there is nothing enabled or check on that window. Then click ok.

Go to Security tab. Then click Custom Level. Look for the option "Reset Custom Settings to" which you will find somewhere at the bottom of the page. Set the custom settings to medium-low. If there is no option for medium-low, then select the lowest option. Click ok all the way out and try launching IE again.

Do a ping also to a certain website and tell me if you'll be able to get responses from that site. Open up command prompt. START>RUN>CMD. Then on the cursor, type ping yahoo.com then press enter. Take note of the ping statistics.

If you have Internet Security firewall enabled in the laptop, turn it off. It can cause a conflict with your router's built in firewall.

Please update me about this incident.

Internet explorer won't open

when it says connected it means to the router, open up internet explorer>tools>internet options>connections tab and tick never dial a connection, or if it's already greyed out it's ok.

Assuming you have run the wireless network connection wizard first to set up the connection, if not it's in network connections and select new wireless connection or set up a wireless network.

Wifi connection

Hello. The wifi switch should be on as indicated by the light beside it. Please press on Start-Connect to  - then select a wireless network then click Connect. If you are asked for the password, please enter it. Click on Open Network and Sharing Center to check if there is a red x mark between the network and the internet or between the network and the computer icons. If there is none, please launch your internet explorer. Hope this works. Thanks.
