SOURCE: 2001 Mercury Mountaineer won't start

Have a load test done on the battery. If it checks out good, take a voltmeter to the battery and have an assistant rotate the engine. If you see more than a 2 volt drop when the car is being started, the starter is heading south.

SOURCE: 2004 Mercury Mountaineer Emergency Brake Adjustment

Greetings larslabs,
My name is Dennis and I can assist you to finding your parking brake adjustment location.
1) the adjustment is located so that you have to remove your center console floor finish panel (this is the drink holder).
2) raise your parking brake lever and gently pry the plastic tabs from the center console.
3) Once you can see the park brake lever you will see a nut that is turned to adjust the lever so that it has 5 clicks when it is applied.
Glad to be of assistance and thank you for using FixYa. Please rate the solution because I can learn from your rating (and it keeps my rating up to date). Thank you, Dennis

SOURCE: In 97 mercury mountaineer, how to turn off "check engine" light

Go to the local parts store, have them check the codes (they will do this for free usually). It will tell you what sensor needs to be checked/replaced. Once the part is replaced, it will clear on its own. They can also reset the code, but it will come back if the trouble persists.

2004 mercury mountaineer will not roll over

have the head lights on and look at them while someone tries to start it...if they dim your battery is probably bad. If they don't dim you may have a bad solinoid on your starter.

2005 mercury mountaineer wont start, no clicking no nothing, then all of a sudden it starts. whats going on?

when it won't crank you will need to start at the battery and work your way to the starter checking for voltage
battery - cables - ignition switch - neutral safety switch - starter

Won't start lights come on but engine won't do anything

There is a good chance that you have a blown fuse or that your starter is gone.
