After recharging the battery and replacing the battery (rechargrable Li-lon), the camera turned on than would not work. I took out the battery and tried to reinsert but now I cannot put it back in. There is a metal tab in the battery compartment that protrudes stopping the battery from seating completely. The lens is fully extended as well and I cannot turn the camera on nor off. I have a EasyShare Z612.

Hello Gene, Sounds like the battery contact has been damaged, this will require a shop repair.

SOURCE: kodak easy share z612 will not turn on to take a picture

When the battery dies, usually the camera will retract the lens if possible. If the battery is so dead the lens can not retract, I would recommend trying to charge or change the battery. Or try to turn the camera on, and then manually shutting it off if you can.

Question : What batteries can I use in my digital camera, and how long do they last?
Battery life depends on how you use your camera, the type of batteries you select, and how you handle the batteries.

Your camera is compatible with: KODAK Li-Ion Rechargeable Battery KLIC-8000 and KODAK CRV3 Lithium Batteries: A non-rechargeable battery. (so your battery might be in need of a change)

Using Your Camera

Some features, such as reviewing pictures and using the flash, require more power than others. Follow these guidelines to get the best use of your batteries:

  • Limit the time your camera is in Review mode.
  • Limit your use of the flash.
  • Use the LCD Dimmer or Auto Power Off features, if available on your camera.
  • Transfer your pictures to your computer using a compatible power adapter, camera dock, printer dock, or memory card reader.
  • Check that the latest firmware is installed on your camera. See Software, Driver & Firmware Downloads.
Handling Your Batteries
  • Wipe the battery contacts with a clean, dry cloth before loading it in your camera.
  • When using your camera in temperatures below 41° F (5° C), carry spare batteries and keep them warm.
  • Do not discard cold batteries that do not work; they may be usable when they return to room temperature.
  • Do not allow batteries to touch metal objects, including coins. Otherwise, the batteries may short-circuit, discharge energy, become hot, or leak.

What do I do if my phone keeps shutting off when its fully charged but when I try to take out the battery and put it back in it just starts blinking like crazy?

Your battery is dead. You can simply buy another of the same battery. Rechargable batteries do lose their charge for good after a certain amount of time.

Still, power, or better said, the lack of correct power supply is the cause of most problems in electronic apparatus.
Please also check the contacts in the battery holder. If there is any corrosion, the voltage that is left for the camera can be just to low to work correct. And also new batteries can be worn out before you put them in the camera. Always check the date on the batteries.
Never use manganese (Zinc-Carbon) batteries. They don't have enough power to let a modern camera work. Even the expansive alkaline batteries, only have enough power to let you take perhaps 100 pictures. The best choose is Li-Ion or NiMH rechargeable batteries.
New rechargeable batteries, can only deliver "Full" power after a few charge / discharge cycles.

Power Source Li-ion Rechargeable Battery (LI-42B) Are you using the above battery?
Check the voltage to make sure it has enough as printed on the charger or the battery.
Alkaline rechargeables, or NiMH rechargeables, or other types of batteries don't have enough voltage or amperage as compared to Li-ion.

Camera keeps turning off

Digital cameras are very Voltage Sensitive. Using Nicad or NiMh batteries will not only , "Not" solve the problems above but will
actually aggravate the above problems for one reason.

Rechargable NiCad or NiMh batteries only produce 1.2 volts fully charged and will only give you 2.4 volts when used in pairs with this camera. This falls below the cameras desired 2.8 - 3.0 voltage requirement and will only result in about 30-40 pictures at most.

This camera requires a constant 2.8 - 3.2 volts to run properly. Kodak won't tell you this !!The camera was designed with Oxy Akaline batteries in mind.New alkalines will produce 3.2 to 3.4 volts in pairs but only for a short period of time. The issue with the Oxy Alkaline batteries is that they simply will not last very long in this camera due to its power requirements.

But there is a really great solution to the problem . You can purchase a CRV3 rechargeable Li-ion battery that fits right into this camera.
You will get a realistic 180-250 photos per charge. The Li-Ion battery maintains a constant 3.0 volts for a very long period of time
and will allow the camera to function the way Kodak originally intended it to and can be recharged. You will find rechargable CRV3 battery kits on ebay or other online battery stores at a very reasonable cost.

You can also use a Lithium Non rechargeable CRV3 battery that will give approx 250-300 photos per battery but you may
find non rechargeable Lithium batteries cost prohibitive.

I use the rechargeable Li-ION Battery exclusively in this camera and it functions perfectly since I switched. I have a pair
of CRV3 Li-Ion batteries so I always have a fully charge CRV3 ready to go.

For reference I was only able to get about 30 pictures with the high capacity 2800 Mah Rechargeable NiMH Batteries I used prior
to using the LI-ION Battery. I get on average about 175 pictures per full charge from the LI-ION Battery.

Is the battery that comes with the camera rechargeable?

Yes, the battery that comes with the C-7000 can be recharged. This battery is the Olympus LI-12B Lithium Ion battery and it can be recharged using the LI-10C battery charger. Both the battery and charger are included with the camera.
