Frigidaire upright freezer Model #FFU17C3AW1 - No longer runs. Help.

If it is in a garage now, the compressor needs a heater pad on it. They call them garage kits. Put a fan heater on the compressor to fool it.

It is also possible it needs a gas top up.

Whirlpool ED2KHAXVS Side by Side Refrigerator --does replacing the filter restart the icemaking process

Not at all. The icemaker is a seperate functioning part of the machine and only gets power from the electrical system. So the only two outside variables that can effect it is the machine losing power or the temperature not being cold enough for it to cycle.

I have the ED2FHEXNQ00 side by side. Is there a solution to the freezer not keeping food frozen when the unit is in garage where temps go below 30 degrees. Can I insulate behind it or put a thermal...

Insulating it might work and may be relative. The condenser is the place the where condensation takes place, where refrigerant gas turns back into liquid under pressure. Outside temperature plays an important role in the condensation of refrigerant and if it is too cold, of course, condensation may not take place normally. You need to reduce the flow of air through he condenser fins by disconnecting the condenser fan. Disconnecting the fan will cause a rise in temperature and presure in the condenser that may be conducive to better condensation providing the garage temperature is very cold; the cold air in the garage will be enough to keep the condenser from overheating.

On the other hand, you can install a simple temperature sensor on the condenser fins that can control l the fan. Fan would turn ON when condenser temperature is too hot and OFF when ambiant air around the condenser is too cold. The best temperature sensor is one with a sensing bulb and one that can be adjusted. With a little know how you can solve this issue. It will work if you use the right temperature controller. Remember that all you need to do is o connect the temperature controller on the condenser fan circuit. Provided that you know "Control" this should be easy. Get help if needed.

Would like to put older side by side refrigerator in our garage. I was told in the winter, when it gets cold the freezer side will not keep foods frozen. I had an older top freezer refrigerator in the...

It could be a problem depending on how cold your garage gets in the winter. Most refrigerators depend on the compressor turning on to cool the freezer section and that cold air is used to cool the refrigerator section. If your the temperature in your garage gets in the 30-40 degree range in the winter. The compressor may not turn on sufficiently since the refrigerator is typically around the 35-40 degree range. This will cause the freezer to warm up to the fridge temperature and your freezer items will defrost.

Is there a garage kit for my kenmore refrigerator?

Assuming you are describing a standard domestic Kenmore refrigerator, and you are asking about an add-on "kit" that will permit the unit to operate in a cold garage, the short answer is no. Kenmore (Sears) makes a refrigerator that is rated for garage use, but it's not a big one.

However, if you are handy, you can install some "bat" type fiberglass insulation under the unit around the compressor being careful not to obstruct the fan or any other moving parts. This will help hold some heat in the compressor area. You will need to remove the insulation in the warmer months so the compressor doesn't overheat.

If it's REALLY cold in your garage in the winter, you could try disconnecting the condenser fan, but you should keep an eye on the unit to see how it performs. The condenser fan MUST be connected if the temperature in the area exceeds around 45 degrees.

Refrigerator/freezer in garage not freezing

Most refrigerator Manufactures have tested these machines in hot and cold weather and weather will effect operation and electricity consuption.
As far as cold weather goes It would run much better in cold weather than hot. As far as it being in the garage : It will wear on it faster. The humidity is not good on them and they get more dirt through the system and will need its normal mantenance more often. not to mention bugs and rodents like to find a warm place to hid with fee dinking water and a refrigerator provides that for them.

Freezer won't work in garage in cold weather

Modern fridge/freezers are built to automatically defrost themselves. To do this they require that the room temperature is well above freezing to allow the defrost to take place. If you site the freezer in too cold an environment it is unable to defrost itself and will eventually stop working. It sounds strange but if it is too cold the freezer cannot work. The solution is to buy and fridge/freezer that does not automatically defrost itself if you want it to work in a cold environment.

Kenmore Side by Side Refrigerator, freezer doesn't work, refrigerator works

Unless specifically made for use in a garage most units won't work properly. The owners manual should say what the temp range for proper operation is (usually 55F is the low range). This is because the refrigerator section doesn't need to be "cooling" to maintain 37F if the temps on the outside are below 55F. These things are made to work in a 70F room and will not work properly if under 55F. Stupid thing thinks it's cold enough so it will never turn on, the refer section will stay cold/cool due to outside temps but since the compressor never runs the freezer will just be the same temp as the refer section (at best). Sorry, but in order for a freezer or refrigerator to work in an unheated space it must have the temp control device controling the freezer section NOT the fresh food section. In other words, that model will not work in a garage unless the temps are above 55F always.
