Imaging Unit needs to be Replaced

My Samsung CLX-3160FN is reading "Imaging Unit needs to be replaced soon". Is there anyway to avoid this?

  • TC78 May 07, 2009

I am thinking there must be a way to open the drum if it fills up, or a sensor that can be cleaned. The imaging unit is relatively new so this should not be happening, even though it's past it's warranty. I reckon there must be a way.....

No, what actually happens is the drum fills up with waste toner and you cannot empty it.

That can't be it, because there's a separate waste toner drum that also needs to be replaced (although I've gotten by just fine with emptying it--very carefully--into a garbage bag and then carefully wiping it down with a dry cloth).

Samsung CLX-3160FN problem with faded black images/text only

Many of today's printers have a "toner save" option, which makes the black appear lighter, and I'm pretty sure this isn't your problem. However, I wanted to rule-out the obvious first, which is just a setting.
If you're seeing the black lighter in vertical "stripes" or segments in your printing, then it's most likely due to a dirty toner cartridge (but you said you replaced it), or cleaning the LSU inside the unit (as it says in the owners manual).
Just in case you don't have the manual handy, here's an online link to it:http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/200611/20061122152910875_CLX-3160_English.pdf

I hope this helps!

My unit screen reads "Replace

I don't think clearing the counters will work for the imaging unit. Just like the toner cartridges, as each time the printer is used, it ticks off another count off the chip. And when the chip reaches full count, you will need to replace the imaging unit.

You will need to replace the imaging unit. It the part where the toner cartridges and waste toner tank sits. The part number is CLP-R300A. You can find it online or at your local office supply store.

I have a Samsung CLX-3160FN multi-function color laser printer. It recently started to print poorly in black (that's what I mostly print). Geniune Samsung toner carts are installed. The black is at 76%. I...

If the black toner prints like the image below with alternating bands of light and dark printing, the problem lies with your imaging unit.13911cf.jpg Specifically the developer blades in the imaging unit has toner build up on the blades. The more you use a particular color, the more it builds up to the point that it exhibits itself as faded images on the paper.

It can be fixed by replacing the imaging unit for $100+, but it will reappear again after sometime. Or you can fix the problem yourself and save yourself $100. You will need to open the imaging unit and clean the blades. I have a description on how to do this in my tips section. Or your can click on this link, http://www.fixya.com/support/r4120906-clean_developer_blades_samsung_clp_300. Hopes this helps you.

The imaging unit is that whole assembly that the toners are plugged into inside the front door of your machine. It a consumable unit available at many office supply stores. The instructions to replace the unit are packed inside the box with the new unit.

Samsung clx-3160fn change image unit

Kindly take out the imaging unit out of the printer and take out and put it properly.

If this did not fix you may try using the imaging unit from other printer.
If this did not solve then visit a service center or buy its Imaging unit.
