I am using D102GGC2 Desktop board with Intel Pentium D Processor 2.8GHz and using 512MB DDR2 PC-533 RAM. Nw I want to upgrade to 2GB and decided to purchase 2 * 1GB DDR2 PC-667 RAM. Will it be compati
Intel Compatibility Support says that D102GGC2 supports a max. of 2GB DDR2 PC-400 or PC-533. But I cant find PC-400 or PC-533 in the market near my hometown. Only PC-667 and PC-800 are available. Shopkeepers say tat both will be compatible. Wat to do nw? If PC-667 is compatible, then whether to install a single 2GB RAM or 2 * 1GB RAM for each slot?
You can only add 1gb per slot Because the mb does not supports a bigger module. This ram type does come as 1 gb module. The 667 mhz and 800 mhz is the Mhz speed for the ram module. Your mainboard supports this but it will only run the current front side bus speed as the mainboard supports. This means that the new ram will only run 533/400 mhz as the mb supports.

I have checked the INTEL site and read the specs on this MB. It only lists support for DDR2 400 and 533 RAM. I can only assume that either some upgrade to the board has been made, or that your 667 RAM will only be performing at 533 speed. The specifications manual lists very specific guidance as to what RAM DIMM design(s) are acceptable. Many double-sided options are unacceptable. It is possible that the system may not be seeing half of each DIMM because of the restrictions on approved RAM modules. This is an older board, and many of them where very fussy about whether you could use single and double sided RAM. Later boards overcame that issue.
Hardware Support
The Biostar i945GZ 775 SE supports RAM a maximum of 2GB using its two
240-pin DIMM slots, each can be populated by a 1GB stick. The board
supports DDR2 400 or 533. With two identical RAM sticks installed, the
board will switch in dual-channel mode operation. For the support of processor, the board can accommodate Intel Pentium 4,
Core2Duo and Pentium D, even Celeron D, all with clock speed up to
3.8GHz; and all are based on a LGA775-pin socket architecture. use an
Intel Pentium D 820 2.8GHz (dual-core, Smithfield) processor on this
board. use the following components to complete the system:
CPU: Intel Pentium D 820 (Smithfield) 2.8GHz, dual-core
RAM: Hynix PC2-3200 2x512MB (1024MB) DDR2 400
HD: Seagate SATA-I Barracuda 7200.8 250GB
CD/DVD-ROM Drives: HP dvd640, Phillips DVD-ROM
This motherboard will support maximum 2 GB of total system memory. so configuration is should be 1GB + 1GB or one 2GB in one slot. If you attempt to install 2GB + 512MB, this is unsupported. but you can try if might the system can read it or not. there is no serious problem for installing memory exceed than maximum system memory... Memory supported is DDR2 533 Mhz and DDR2 400 MHz...(sometimes on the market DDR2 533 will described as module name PC2-4200 and DDR2 400 as PC2 3200)
specs on that board from Intel is 2 gig max. when you install the 2 gig alone does it show you 2 gig in windows or only 1?......with a 2 gig max I would think that would max each slot at 1 gig...
Your motherboard has the follwing memory support : DDR2 533/400 SDRAM 2 slots, Single-channel (2GB2 Max). As long as it is supported by your motherboard there would be no problem since your processor is also supported by the motherboard.
The below is the contents of Intel published for your board
Intel Desktop Board D102GGC2 Technical Product Specification
System Memory
The board has two 240-pin DIMM sockets and supports the following memory features:
• 1.8 V (only) DDR2 SDRAM DIMMs with gold-plated contacts
• Unbuffered, single-sided or double-sided DIMMs with the following restriction:
Double-sided DIMMS with x16 organization are not supported.
• 2 GB maximum total system memory.
• Minimum total system memory: 128 MB
• Non-ECC DIMMs
• Serial Presence Detect
• DDR2 533 or DDR2 400 MHz SDRAM DIMM
hope it helps, if so rate the solution
