Installed new worm gear, but now i cant get the door down

I installed a new worm gear, and now the chain moves. According to the instructions I need to get the trolley to the closed position before I hook the door up. Even after adjusting the distance and force I cannot get the trolley to move to the closed position, it only moves about a foot down the rail, no matter how I adjust the distance or force. Thanks for your help.

I checked the wire harness and it is connected.

I checked the shaft and its seems to stay perfectly straight when rotatating. What if I take the chain off the sprocket and manully slide the trolley down. Also when I press the opener the trolley starts down (closing) shouldnt it start sliding to open?

Check the movement of the motor shaft. (not the turning of the shaft) The movement back and forth should not be move than 1/32 of an inch

The door only moves 15 inches in each direction. I just installed a new gear kit.

Loosen the chain enough so that you can remove the chain from the sprocket above the motor. Run the motor until the sprocket turns in the clockwise direction and stops. With the door in the closed position replace and tighten the spring. This will get everything in sync and you will most likely need to tweak the 'up and down limit' controls to get it just right.

You may not have had the motor shaft pushed all the way back when you tightened the coupler after replacing the worm gear. Loosen the coupler up and from the front of the motor (opposite end in which the coupler is on) push the shaft back as far as it will go. Hold it there while you tighten the coupler back up and then try it.

Lift master garage door opener. Motor makes noise when switch is hit likes its running but chain/sprocket doesn't move and the door is stuck open. Chain is on sprocket. Not sure if the motor is frozen? ...

I had the same problem. Took the cover off of the opener and found that the gears were stripped on the unit. Motor was fine. You can order gear replacement kit for the unit. They are a plastic type sprocket and worm gears. The kit comes with spindles and all necessary clips. You have to take the unit off the ceiling to replace the gears, but the process if very easy to do. Parts kit about $40 on line, much cheaper than a new door opener. Total process took less than 2 hours, including getting the unit down and back up again.

Chamberlain Power Drive 1/2 HP - motor runs but does not move chain

I have the same problem. I just removed the cover and discovered a nylon gear had been worn out. I found lots of shavings inside the cover. The nylon gear is beneath the exterior chain gear. I am looking for information on how to replace it, if I can find the part. If you decide to look at yours, unplug the power and remove the sheet metal screws securing the bottom portion of the cener cover to the front and back covers. Then just remove the upper screws from the center cover. Good luck.
