I followed the directions very carefully but each time I want to remove the toner cartridge, it won't come out. I've fiddled with it many times, and once finally it came out and I didn't know what I did. So I put in a new cartridge, and it's worked for over a year. Now I need to replace the toner again, but can't remove the cartridge. Any ideas?

Hi Scottmortona,
Welcome to FixYa!
I encountered this while printing my lecture notes for my students. This seems either a drum issue or the toner.

SOURCE: faded print quality
If your toner saver is off and still getting faded quality means you mirrors and Scanning Lamp are not reflecting images properly.
Now if you are handy on printer then you need to take off glass
from printer then you need to clean ADF units (mirrors, lense lamp etc)
but if you unaware of printer repairing, i highly recommend to call a printer tech who ca fix back it quick.
sometime printer acts weired due to this problem while printer or make copies.
Good luck

Try this....
1: Turn off power and remove toner/drum
2: Tape the little spring loaded lever just inside the printer on the upper left hand side in the *DOWN* position! Do not replace drum yet and...
3: Turn power on to printer and let it cycle. Status/Toner lights will come on as usual.
4: Turn off printer, remove tape from lever, replace drum and turn back on.
