APC SUVT 20 kVA power-up on batteries but not on mains

My APC SUVT 20 kVA does not power-up on mains. I can turn it on by battery power (cold start button) and will then work normally. No fault indications, mains are OK and stable (230V)

maybe someone has at component or schematic level an idea where / how I could start checking.I mean to say that I know how to use a soldering iron ;-) Any APC experts out there? Thanks for a hint (or comment)

PS: For this UPS I not need a Bypass (SBS, MBS) as I use it for Solar power storage. Actually, the feature/capability of DC-cold start made me choose this unit.

Problem is fixed thanks to Mian Tayyab!!!!

SOURCE: apc ups flashes red light to replace battery, but battery is new

i think by replacing the battery has not been the solution to the problem

u need to check the battery charging voltage when turned ON with main electricity, if no voltage present from charger, there is no question of battery getting charged and also once the battery is down with charge it may not re charge hence the indicator and alarm.
recomended to nearest service centre

SOURCE: insufficient Runtime Available on Agent

If the UPS display is indicating runtime at 6 mins, and software is saying insufficient, seems like a communications issue. I'd try downloading the latest communication software for the UPS and reseating the communications cable at both ends, making sure no bent pins, etc. could be causing a comm glitch.

SOURCE: APC SMARTUPS 1500VA Battery Problem When Replaced

You are correct. The APC Smart line has a partial charge when it's new. Similar to cordless phones, the work right away, but you're still supposed to charge them before use for best results.

Just leave it plugged in with no load for a couple hours and it will be fine.

disconnect one terminal of the battery then measure charging voltage betwen +ve and -ve it should be 13.8vdc for one 12v battery if charging voltage is not present then battery is ok then connect ammeter to measure the current in Ampere .take care it should be in series if current if no current then battery must ok opern the ups there is a charger transformer measure i/p voltage to transformer if not present then check i/p path if present then check diodes at o/p of charger if faulty replace it also check capacitor and regulator ic if faulty replace it your problem must be solved

I WANT TO CONNECT TWO APC UPS 700 VA UNITS TO SINGLE 24 VOLT BATTERY. BY DOING THIS MY INTENTION IS TO CHARGE THER BATTERIES RAPIDLY WHEN THE ELECTRIC SUPPLY IS RESTORED. IS IT POSSIBLE TO CONNECT TWO UPSs...

waheed70, NO!!!! NO!!! NO!!! DO NOT EVEN THINK OF DOING THAT!!! You may cause catastrophic failure to not one but both APC ups units and will void any warranty you might have!!! If you are in need of longer run time on battery back-up, then start looking into buying an "ONLINE" ups system somewhere in the 5 to 10 kva range. Check out "chloride" systems and "powervar" and "toshiba" and "ONEAC" for info about "true online" battery back-up systems. Bye for now. 12fixlouie

My ups is not working. it is not responding on main power supply neither backing up.

Batteries in the UPS typically last 3 to 5 years and it depends upon several factors. including the number of times the unit must go on battery power and environmental conditions. There are usually several batteries in the UPS and while the battery voltage may show 13 volts, this may only be a float charge/voltage and a true indication of the battery voltage and condition requires the batteries to be tested under a load. There maybe one battery in a set of batteries that is faulty and causes the whole battery system to fail and indicate a battery fault.

These lower powered and cheaper KVA type UPS are switch over types, when the mains supply fail, the UPS switches over to the battery and inverter in milli-seconds which then supplies mains power but the power waveform is a pseudo sine wave (ie not a true sinewave. A faulty inverter circuit and or flat batteries won’t deliver standby power when the mains supply fails.

Apc unit is shuting itself down whenever PC unit is turned on, and then its alarm gets stuc. Also, sometimes it shuts down whenever another electrical appliance in the room is turned on. (Like a TV)

Sir after changing the battery ups worked well one day and the next day onwards when i pressed the switch red and amber lights blinking and the upc trips with beep sound .kindly give the solution

The true UPS types are usually the higher KVA units (over 1500 VA) that supplies uninterrupted mains power. The mains power is connected to a charger which charges the batteries and the inverter draws power from these batteries and converts it to true sine wave mains power therefore there is no switch over time lag from the mains to the battery.

Apc

1) Switch Off the UPS and unplug all Loads (like System, Monitor etc.) from UPS.
2) Switch Off the AC Power (Input Power to UPS).
3) Press the UPS Power Switch constantly unless you hear 2nd BEEP Tone. As soon as you are hearing 2nd BEEP Tone, Release the Power Switch.
4) This is COLD START of all APC UPS that will reset any internal problem.
5) If, however, the problem persists, contact APC.
