The washer lights up when I press the button to select the cycle. The cycle light blinks, but when I hold down the start button nothing happens. The door appears to be closed fully. I have had this washer for 3 years and have never had this problem. Thanks for any suggestions.
I have the same problem. My machine is 2yrs old and when I try to start a wash cycle, all the lights are up except the close door light. Tried pushing the start button twice, tried holding the start button down for two second, no dice.I have the same problem. We press the start button, hold it and it will not lock and begin the wash cycles. We ha had it less than a year and a half and this is the first time this has happened. Any ides on how to troubleshoot and/or fix the problem? Thanks in advance for your help!We press the start button, hold it and it will not lock and begin the wash cycles. First of all, does the washer make a distinctive "click" when you push the START button? This is an indication that your door latch is locking (or at least making an attempt to lock). Normally, however, the display would have an "fdl" fault code indicating a door lock failure if it were bad. I have seen the latch go bad and not register a fault code, though. You can perform this simple diagnostic test to see if any fault codes register:
1. Select DRAIN/SPIN
2. Under SPIN SPEED select NO SPIN
3. Then, under OPTIONS push the PREWASH button 4 times.
You should hear the door latch click then "C00" will show on the display. The washer will begin a series of tests (C01...C05 - depending on options and model) by testing the hot and cold fill valves, the various dispenser compartments, followed by tumble, drain and spin.
If there is something wrong the diagnostic test will abort and a fault code will be displayed. The washer usually beeps when it displays a fault code.
If you attempt to perform the diagnostic and the display momentarily flashes after you press the PREWASH button the fourth time and goes out, this can also be a symptom of bad door latch.
You need to perform these simple steps first in order to further diagnose. Let me know what you come up with.

I own a 18-year-old Kenmore front-load washer so I'm not sure this will apply, but here goes... My washer requires me to press and HOLD the start button for a few seconds before it will start. At that point the door will lock and the washer goes through its startup phase. I think that is a "safety feature' to keep from accidentally bumping the button and starting the washer. See if that help. Good luck!
Water still in the bottom of the drum. Empty, clean filter and check pump is turning. Once pressure switch is satisfied no water is left it'll allow the door to open, assuming the door interlock is still ok.
try holding the sop/cancel button for 15seconds, this should reset it but may not completely remedy the problem. after you reset it see if any other lights blink or if any other problems arise
This depends on the blinking pattern. Of the eight lights on the panel, if the four on the left blink on and then the right four lights blink on as the left ones go off, and keep blinking back and forth, that just means the mode has been set and the Start button pressed. After closing the door it should just continue on wherever it is in the cycle. (This is normal operation).
If you hold down the Start button, this resets the dishwasher. If you then close the door, nothing will happen because it thinks it's done.
If the lights are blinking in a different pattern, such as they all blink on and off in unison, that indicates an error condition and needs to be diagnosed. If the pump is not running constantly, then at least it's not because water is leaking out somewhere.
Most likely a faulty door interlock switch...try closing the door with more force, or pressing the door while trying to start...if this works it may be time to find a door lock in the meantime...
