used tv system test signal ok,phone ok,access card ok,but does say dish may need service.

I hooked this up ten years ago and never had a problem till now. If i get a 70% signal, what can go bad on the dish, and why is it locked on that 70% signal when i know it is normal to go up and down

Hello,

The 311 receiver is normall a pretty tough machine. Getting a 70 % signal is normal, and it shouldn't fluctuate too much unless you have something like a tree or other obstacle in the way.

85% of the problems with these older systems is the LNB. I see it all the time.

My first suggestion would be changing the LNB (the eye of the dish). You say that your system is 10 years old, and there are a lot of LNB's out there that go bad over time. It may say that you are getting signal, but the quality may be so poor that the receiver may not know what to do with it.

If you have 2 LNB's (separate eyes) on your dish, then you have two singles or duals with a switch 21. I'd remove these and replace them with a Legacy Twin LNB. If you have a Twin LNB, then replace it with another Twin (especially if it has "lot" number printer in the front of it, these are notoriously bad).

I hope this helps you...

Upgraded to Hd and tv started messing up. Double images for first 10 minutes and sometimes tv picture goes off and lines up and down.

Your HDTV is capable of up to 1080P resolution. SDTV (standard def) signals are 480i; EDTV (enhanced def) is 480P; HDTV are 720P, (there is no 720i) 1080i and 1080P. Generally, those modes ending in "P" look better than those ending in "i". 1080i is the highest possible for broadcast TV, but BluRay disks and Directv have 1080P display capabilities.

The double picture you're describing sounds like the TV is set to display only standard or enhanced def signals while the Dish Network box is supplying it with HD signals. You should locate the control for the TV's resolution and make sure it is set to "1080P" and then set the output of your Dish Network set top box to the highest output it offers. Do the same for your BluRay player and any other devices, too.

Once set correctly, you should have a great picture once again. I hope this helps & good luck!

Black screen

Possible causes
  • Your TV is not receiving or displaying the signal from your DIRECTV® Receiver.
  • Your receiver has correct guide information, but is not processing video correctly.
  • You are viewing a channel where an upcoming sporting or special event is scheduled or has recently ended.

Solutions
  • Turn TV off and on.
  • Make sure light on front panel of receiver is lit.
  • Press the "TV/DSS" button on the remote control or front panel of the receiver (not all receivers have this option).
  • Reset the receiver by unplugging the power cord for 15 seconds.
  • Check all cable connections between the dish, receiver and TV.

If the picture is black, but the program title and description display in a banner the top of the screen:
  • If the problem is only occurring on a few channels, check the detailed description of the program through the on–screen guide on those channels. Often, we display a blank screen with a banner before and after a high–profile event to alert customers about the event.
  • Reset the receiver by turning off and unplugging the power cord for 15 seconds.
  • Run a signal meter test to check your signal strength (press "menu" and look under "setup" or "installation").

If your signal strength is below 70 (or below 60 on HD receivers) in clear weather on transponders 1 and 2, see our troubleshooting steps for "Searching for satellite signal. Please stand by." You may see zero strength on transponders 4, 12, 18, 20, 26 and 28. This is normal in many areas. Your system manual shows how to run cables and point your dish.

I have "2 room service" The #1 TV picture will move-stop-move-stop....The #2 TV is OK. I've tried with no success to contact Dish.

Hi troymass this Mike Houston of DISH Network. The one thing we want to do is a hard reset by pulling out the receiver power cord for 10 seconds and plugging it back in. the receiver will power back on its own and reacquire to get the strongest signal. If the problem still persists you can run a check switch test MENU-6-1-1 and select Check Switch and then TEST. Once test is completed exit out of all menus.

Unit is on Dish Network. Timed out during nite. "Locked" message on. Experimenting with remote was usless. No picture. Unit is small flat screen. Gift, no manual.

First, power down the Receiver and remove the card, disconnect your dish networking data cables. ( All )
Power down your TV.
Allow 2 minutes for the dish receiver to set, before powering up.
Next, reconnect all cables to dish Receiver and power on the TV and Receiver.
Next, plug in the card for Receiver.
The unit should cycle and show network accessing satellites.
If you have used this system before, you should know any setup steps or configurations.
Hope this has been of some help and your system now works.
Please rate kindly.

Hi benray there is something else youcan do on that to make sure your getting the strongest signal possible. Youwill need to press the MENU-6-1-1 buttons on the remote. Select Check Switchand Test, after the test is complete select done and then check the signal andif there is still a weak signal we will need to re-point the Dish.

Dish Network - Loss of signal after smart card upgrade.

Hi I will be more than glad to assist you in this concern.. Since you did already all the troubleshooting to fix the problem and according to the customer service, just run the check switch and test, that should fix the problem, but it didnt. The blue card that your refering is the g3 smartcard, it started when u insert to the 301 receiver.. It could be a bad smartcard or the receiver is bad, If you have another solo receiver in the house, just to isolate the problem, try to hook up the other solo receiver in the room where the 301 receiver is hook, run a check switch and test to the other solo receiver, once its done check your sat and signal, once its ok, cancel all the way out and it should acquire the sat signal..it will show attention 015 and let it finish the progress until it download the programming guide.. once u got a picture and the problem still exist with a different receiver. the problem is with the receiver and the receiver needs to be replace, if you call on dish network tech support, tell them that you try using another receiver and install to the room were the 301 is located, so that they wont do a troubleshooting again.. that is.. if you have another receiver to test and isolate the problem, but if not request for a service call so that they will send tech to your house.. please feel free to get in touch.
