I can't get it to go to the internet

I am trying to set uo a HP a1000n. I had it working before - then I got a new HP all in one. I am trying to set up the old computer so my husband can use it. The cord that is at the bottom of the pavillion that you can not remove I have pluged into the ethernet connection on the back of my modem. This must be wrong. The computer turns on - the mouse works and the keyboard works. I can't get on the internet.

If you have a modem and a router you may have the router hooked up to the computer but it may not be hooked up to the router I only mention this cause i have made this simple mistake more then i care to admit

SOURCE: compaq presario sr2150nx keyboard and mouse wont work

Plug the keyboard in first and see if you can get that to respond properly. If it acts up then just only hook up the mouse and see if you can get the mouse to respond properly. If that acts up then try another known working mouse and keyboard.

If both ps2 devices still act up then your ps2 ports are bad and you'll either have to go with a usb mouse and usb keyboard or replace the motherboard. Let me know if you need more help.

SOURCE: HP Slimline Pavillion s3123w monitor going to sleep.

Sounds like the motherboard might be bad but go thru these steps.

Unseat and reseat the memory one stick at a time in each slot one at at time and turn on the computer after each stick reinsertion.

If that doesn't get the video to come back up then go ahead and unseat and reseat the CPU. Then try turning on the computer.

If that doesn't do it, make sure there is no power going to the hard drive or the dvd drive. Then try turning on the computer.

If you do all of these steps and you still have no video, then the motherboard is bad and would need to be replaced.

SOURCE: Keyboard, mouse, front USBs,DVD recorder not working

It sound like your USB Ports is the problem. Go to the Hardware manager delete the USB Ports and then shutdown and power back up.
The system then should reinstall the USB Ports and associated drivers. If not the USB Ports were probably fried by the power outage.

No modem model and name stated
no router, stated, same. model or number.
do other PCs work here wired to same ethernet jack.?

the PC is old. and zero support now
so this is what we do , now. using a scanner to find out what Ethernet chip is there.

Why won't new screen come on when powered uo?

I can only guess from your question, but I think that your previous monitor had settings that the new one does not support.
  • Try to connect older one to the computer and lower the resolution and Frequency rate of the monitor from its properties menu like on the picture.

11_30_2011_11_08_47_am.jpg
  • After that connect the new monitor. This should do the trick if the problem is in the unsupported settings.
If you can't see the initial bootup screen, then probably the problem is in your cable or video card. This usually can happen when using DVI output.

If my HP Pavillion a1000n computer is really slow, does this mean i need to add memmory? I have alot of photos stored on this computer over 5 yrs.

Poor performance could be down to a number of reason's but adding memory is usually good value.
you can visit http://www.crucial.com to find out what additional memory (if any) you can add to your machine and how much it will cost.
Also worth making sure your anti-virus is up to date, that you have a decent amount of free hard disk space (at least 1Gb), defrag your hard drive if possible and run a good anti-malware scan to make sure there isn't any dodgy processes hanging about....suggest downloading and running the free edition of MalwareBytes - http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free
I hope this helps and good luck! If you have more questions - ask away!

Fresh install of windows xp pro on a hp pavilion a1000n. Video, Audio, USB, and Modem drivers not installed. No support on this product found at either Hp's website, nor Intel (the motherboards...

I doubt, due to no support from Microsoft, anyone still supports XP. The nearest drivers I can find are Vista32 bit drivers.
Have fun and good luck.
How about Win2000 drivers, they are very similar?

For no reason, my HP laptop stopped working the internet. It works perfectly otherwise. I hard connected the laptop directly to my wirelessouter as well as my modem, still it will not connect to internet.

Connectivity issues can be many.

I would start my first rebooting the main modem.
Once that is up, reboot the wireless router.
Once that is uo, reboot the laptop.
Try to connect.

If that does not work, eliminate the wireless router and connect the laptop directly to the modem via Ethernet cable and reboot the computer again and see if it works. If it does, then it is something with the wireless router. If it doesn't, i would contact the provider so they can verify that they can see your modem on their network. If they cannot, they will advise you further (hardware/cabling issue). This is all assuming that nothing has been changed on any settings of the laptop, router or modem.

"line in" unresponsive. "line out" and "mic" are ok. Any suggestions?

Of course check the settings in the virtual mixer that the line in is not muted and volume is up.

REMEMBER that the line in on a lot of the machines is a low impedance input and MAY require more to drive it than some devices will deliver.

Look, this sometimes happen just due to Drivers that conflict with each other & ultimately, the svchost of ur computer freezes.. Thus, no connection is allowed to transfer any data..
simply follow the instructions
go to properties of my computer

now select it & make a right click over it
now select uninstall
dont worry, it will just remove the device from ur computer & make sure u dont remove the drivers of it
now after inonstalling, if ur computer automatically detects a new hardware, then its k, else restart ur machine,,,,,
as u restart, a pop up will occur named "NEW HARDWARE FOUND"
let the machine do its job and after it installs everything, again restart ur machine & thats it
