Black LCD screen , new photos black.

Great camera until today when LCD screen (and Diopter) won't give picture preview. LCD works (previous shots able to be brought up on screen) but any new shots are appearing on photo record as black. Cannot locate anything which would reset back to original factiory settings. Prob seemed to be initited when 16 yr old stepdaughter 'borrowed' camera. Help please from anyone and you can join me on a NZ photo safari.

I assume you mean the viewfinder screen. This has become inoperative because very likely it has been given a knock, and [at the very least] a connector has come adrift. But it could be worse. It will be a repair shop job I fear But do get on to Panasonic Technical Support just in case I have misdiagnosed.

Hello

If you can view the pictures previously taken with the camera on the camera LCD, but the new photos just come out black, this is most probably a blown ccd.

This is a expensive component to replace, and you will also need specialized equipment to do this yourself.

I would suggest that you take your camera to your nearest repair shop and let them test the ccd.

Hope this can be of help.

Kind regards
Andrea

This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check this link for more info.

Looks like the LCD screen in damaged... If you can tolerate the "blob" and it doesn't show up in your images when they're downloaded, then it's not an issue, but if you want to change the LCD, go back to ebay and type in your camera model and "LCD". There are a few camera dismantlers that sell on ebay and you'll find a good deal.

No preview image. Black screen LCD

The problem is not with the LCD or the camera - You have got it set to ecomony / power save mode. Fixable through camera settings.

Preview screen half white, with black blob!

I think ribbon connector of LCD is misaligned in your camera.
If you are comfortable with it, please apart camera and readjust ribbon connector at main board.

New Camera, no picture on screen

This is normal for this camera. Think about it. The CMOS chip can't see through the mirror. After the shot is taken the electronic shutter exposes the CMOS chip and makes an image just like exposing film on a film type camera. Once you get used to it you may like it better. In outdoor or bright light situations it's difficult to view the LCD screen to frame the shot anyway.

Kodak C643 Screen black

One way out of the glare is to use the optical viewfinder (if your camera has one) to preview your image instead of the LCD. Another possibility is to buy a camera that has a backlit LCD.

LCD Screen does not work properly

Your camera works just like a film camera SLR,. You use the eyepiece to frame and focus your picture. The LCD screen is for reviewing pictures taken or menu operations. You cannot preview a shot on screen before it is taken with the camera.

LCD screen won't show preview except in C mode

Well, after a little more googling, I'm embarrassed to say I've found the solution. I must have somehow pressed the display button which turned the preview display off. I tried pressing all of the buttons before I made my previous post, but apparently i didn't press it. :(
