Can't restart windows 7 on my dell d610, did a format on the hd, re-loaded the windows 7 disc, everything runs great until I shut it down then it won't restart

I downloaded the dell drivers for my laptop after re-loading windows 7, it ran fairly quickly, everything seems fine until I shut it down. It won't restart again, I've gone through this a few times with the same results.

Recently a put windows 7 on my latitude d610 only problems I had were incompat. Drivers (wifi, sound, graphics.) all were fixed with googling those drivers with windows 7 because this hardware is not compatible with 7 but seeing as it is a restart thing,

Check the drivers u have installed try to see if any need updating or are no compat.

SOURCE: Dell Latitude D610 dvd player won't work

Try a CD ROM lens cleaner. If it fails then I suggest you buy a new one. It is easy to change it: there is a release switch at the bottom with a screw. Open it and remove the old one. Slide the new one into its place.

SOURCE: my dell d610 laptop is giving me an error code

The error code indicates hard drive failure.

You can take out the hard drive and connect it to a hard drive enclosure. Then connect the enclosure to a working computer to take a backup of your important data.

SOURCE: dell latitude D610. Screen goes black. External Monitor OK.

Make sure you have not accidentally used the FN+F5 key
That combination sets the laptop to use an external display.

If using that does not give you a display take a small torch (flashlight if in USA) and shine it at an angle on the laptop screen.
If you can see any sort of picture you would be looking at replacement of some minor parts to the laptop screen

Hope this gives you the information you need. If not add any extra information you may have and lets see if we can FixYa

How do i factory reset. My dell latitude e6430?

You can't really factory reset a computer. You could try Windows System Restore. If you have Windows 7, then your computer has probably been make "restore points" that will let you go back to the state of the system on that date. Maybe there's a restore point close to your purchase date....

Want to go thermonuclear?
  1. Back up all your files. I'd make 2 backups.
  2. Make sure you have all the CDs that Dell sent you with Windows and drivers. If you didn't get those disks with your computer, call Dell and tell them you need them; they should ship them for free. (It seems like Dell decided a couple of years ago that almost no one was using those disks, so they stopped sending them out with new computers.)
OK, here comes the thermonuclear part. You are about to erase *everything* on your hard disk: Windows gone, programs gone, files gone. You will have to reinstall Windows and your programs, and restore your files from backup.

These instructions are for Windows 7, but should be close for other versions.

To install Windows 7 using the Custom option and formatting the hard disk

To format your hard disk during Windows 7 installation, you'll need to start, or boot, your computer using the Windows 7 installation disc or USB flash drive.
  1. Turn on your computer so that Windows starts normally, insert the Windows 7 installation disc or USB flash drive, and then shut down your computer.
  2. Restart your computer.
  3. Press any key when prompted, and then follow the instructions that appear.
  4. On the Install Windows page, enter your language and other preferences, and then click Next. If the Install Windows page doesn't appear, and you're not asked to press any key, you might need to change some system settings. To learn how to do this, see Start your computer from a Windows 7 installation disc or USB flash drive.
  5. On the Please read the license terms page, if you accept the license terms, click I accept the license terms, and then click Next.
  6. On the Which type of installation do you want? page, click Custom.
  7. On the Where do you want to install Windows? page, click Drive options (advanced).
  8. Click the partition that you want to change, click the formatting option you want to perform, and then follow the instructions.
  9. When you've finished formatting, click Next.
  10. Follow the instructions to finish installing Windows 7, which include naming your computer and setting up an initial user account.
Now you have a spanking clean computer.

Dell Error Code 4400:011D?

This problem is usually caused by corrupt files in Windows usually caused by a crash or sudden shut down (like a power-outage.)

There is some slight possibility that your RAM is failing, so try http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/diagnosing-memory-problems-on-your-computer.

If this is not a problem, you may (or may not) have some luck if you (i) disconnect everything except monitor, mouse and keyboard (ii) open Windows in Safe Mode and then (iii) see if you can access a restore point before the disaster.

If this fails, run the command checkdisk /r from the command prompt (see below and http://kb.wisc.edu/page.php?id=6565 which is valid for Win Vista/7) Type cmd in the start menu and right click on cmd.exe. Then select "Run as administrator"

If that fails,

a)Insert the Windows 7 installation disc.
Note: The computer must be configured to start from a CD or from a DVD. For information about how to configure the computer to start from a CD or from a DVD, see the information that came with the computer.
b)Restart the computer and boot from the Windows 7 installation disc.
c)Set your language preference, and then click on Next.
d)Click on Repair your computer.
e)In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click on the operating system that you want to repair, and then click on Next.
f)In the System Recovery Options menu, click on Command Prompt.
g)Type in chkdsk /r (note the space between k and /) and press enter. This might cause a message that checkdisk cannot run and ask you if you want to have checkdisk run when the computer next starts: type yes and then restart the computer.
h)When the repair process is complete, type exit.
NOTE: While performing chkdsk on the hard drive if any bad sectors are found on the hard drive when chkdsk tries to repair that sector if any data available on that might be lost.

If this fails, and you have no back-up, then you are in "reinstall Windows" territory. Buy a new HDD, remove the old HDD, install the new HDD, format and install Windows on the new HDD. Now connect up your old disk and, with luck, the new disk will be able to see the old one.

Stop 0x000000ED (UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME)

Hmm seen this a few times. This is most commonly caused by your NTFS format layering being corrupted. Meaning that the partition was either not completed when u loaded the operating system or the format has been corrupted from "hard shut downs" This is turning the pc off with the power button instead of going to "start" button and doing a soft shut down. U can try retrieving the format back but u will have programs that no longer responde. Easiest way to solve the issue is reloading your operating system.
