Turntable pitch control problem

Dear thimc (to whom it may concern) I'm having problems keeping the pitch steady after matching the bpms of both records. I've used other turntables so I know it's not me. I can still use them for parties without causing a train wreck (Which i had to learn the hard way),but I still want them working in good condition. feeling hopelfull. Armand

    hallo everybody,
    I've a problem with my Technics SL 1200 MK5
I turn it on and after few seconds the pitch start going crazy..!
With the reset button there are not problem... but with the pitch fader (slider) when I move it up or down the speed goes crazy.
It goes faster and slower alone...!

I know this problem has subsided, probably, but just in case someone else comes along with the same problem, you can find a detail instruction on djtutor.com (under repairs) but basically you take off the platter and un-screw the plastic cover, then you will see a blue circle with notches, by turning it to either the right speeds up the platter motor and to the left slows the platter, but you will have to put on the platter and turn it on to see the changes that you need to make, watch the video  * this is for the technic sl1200,

Sounds like the pitch needs replacing or tighting. Get them serviced. Ask your equipment supplier shop. Good way to check the decks are in sync is to place the pitch on each marked seting ie 0 / 2/ 4/etc making sure both decks are set to the same pitch adjustment speed. Look at the light from the on/off switch and check the 4x circles on the deck platter and make sure they are the same as each other. If you never used this before. set your eyes and pay attention, you will notice the pattern. I mix this way to get tunes roughly in time without listerning to the track - DJ EZ helped me with this years ago. peace DJ Nyce

Chances are the pitch sliders are worn.
Look here for replacements :-

Erratic pitch movement

I'm afraid it could be many things, most likely nothing to do with the pitch control. I believe you have a Direct Drive motor, so that maybe bad. There is a circuit that operates with a microprocessor(computer) IC, called a Phase Lock Loop, which is what keeps the pitch accurate. Anything there could be bad. More more information, or should you have more questions, please visit my website at audioserviceclinic.com. I may be contacted through the website. Thank you.

I own a SL1200 MKII and when the light "turn on" in the pitch control slider (green LED) the speed is not correct (big dots on platter move slightly) .Could you please give me some tips to solve...

Use the slide on the pitch control to move forward or backward until the dots stay steady. If it is a little old the quartz control won't work as well.

I have a Technics SL-150 mk1 direct drive turntable in reasonable condition. The only problem is that the pitch does not stay steady. The pitch pots have to be adjusted constantly after start up as it very...

Normally sewing machine oil wouldn't be to heavy for this application, but if the pots were worn, the oil might have amplified the problem. I would search some of the audiophile forums online and avoid the Crutchfields' and other modern "know nothing" audio outlets. These were great turntables & "robust" is an understatement... With a little diligence I'm sure you'll locate replacement pots or another turntable as a "donor".(maybe Ebay???) Good luck on your qwest!

Make shure that is a 50Hz turntable. If you connect a 60 Hz turntable in a 50 Hz system, the result is aprox 28 RPM in the 33 RPM position/

One of my technics' 1200 turntable's tone gets too high

You can try adjusting the pitch's gain, which is located on the pitch control circuit board. Only problem is that you'll have to take apart your turntable in order to get to that section (its on the bottom).

If that does not work, your pitch might be bad, or one of the main circuit drive IC's might be bad.

Hope this helps some.

PITCH CONTROL PROBLEM

The reset button disables your pitch control and allows the turntable to rotate at TRUE "0" (zero). FYI, these turntables were NOT made for DJing. They were made for radio, studio, and high end home use. They became DJ turntables, because they were perfectly built for the trade. So, the pitch reset button is more of a function best suited for radio stations or a producer who needs to record or play at a true zero speed.

Now, on to your question...

More than likely you just have to calibrate your pitch control. There are various videos on YouTube on how to do this properly. Just do a search CALIBRATING 1200s or similar. FYI, all the Technics SL1200/1210 MK series are the same inside. MK2, MK3, MK5 - so don't worry if you only find videos on calibrating MK2's or MK5s - works the same on all the models.

Good luck!

Technics 1210 Mk 2 Pitch Fade Problems

You have to understand any sort of calibration meter will only tell you if the pitch control is faulty - or excessively too fast/too slow. If your units are just 'off' then that is a matter of a simple calibration of your pitch controls back to original factory specs. Also, just so you know, the pitch controls on the 1200s are not really calibrated when they leave the factory. They are basically installed, set a default setting, then shipped off. So, you'll often times have 2 turntables with sequential serial numbers, but they are both off.

Here is a tutorial on calibrating your unit back to original factory settings: TECHNICS SL1200MK2 / SL1210MK2 TURNTABLE PITCH CALIBRATION

You can also print this out and give it to the technician who serviced your units. Also ask him what kind of calibration meter, or unit did he use to test? Just curios.
