SOURCE: Brother DCP-130C refuses to print the magenta ink

If you don't print at least once a month, you will clog the machine. You unfortunately have to get it fixed by a professional or get a new printer. Sorry!

SOURCE: Using far too much ink

This came from brothers website:

The Yellow ink cartridge yield is up to 300 pages @ 600 x 150 dpi when printing at 5% coverage on A4 sized paper.
The Magenta ink cartridge yield is up to 300 pages @ 600 x 150 dpi when printing at 5% coverage on A4 sized paper.
The Cyan ink cartridge yield is up to 300 pages @ 600 x 150 dpi when printing at 5% coverage on A4 sized paper.
The Black ink cartridge yield is up to 350 pages @ 600 x 150 dpi when printing at 5% coverage on A4 sized paper.

so it appears that what you are experiencing is not normal and you may have a leaking printer.

There is one thing you can check though, everytime you print, make sure that you are not printing at the highest quality option selectable as this almost certainly will fire out more ink than regular printing... choose a middle quality option or even draft option if you will be printing regular text.

SOURCE: BROTHER MFC-210 PRINTING IN BLACK INK POOR QUALITY

Try cleaning the black printer heads several times in a row, at least 5 times then print a black document with best quality setting.
Press the ink button, then down to select select cleaning and then press menu/set and menu/set again to select black.

SOURCE: My printer Brother DCP 165C cannot print in black ink.

Your black printhead is blocked.
The printhead is deep inside the printer and has to be taken out by the expert and cleaned with the help of 'steam' and hot water. This is because not using the printer for a long time. or using low grade refill inks.
Please select new cartridge only if you are inserting a new cartridge or fully refilled cartridge. Otherwise use old cartridge option. Brother printer has a mechanical sensor and not the electronic chip in the ink cartridges.
After inserting the old used cartridge if you choose 'new cart' option it will show the "Full" ink. You can still print from the exhausted ink cart after covering the sensor in the middle by a piece of paper in emergency.

My bizhub c451 suddenly started printing and copying nothing but colourful dots and lines all over the page. even with a test page i can only see a windows logo and all dots and lines, no text. even

Make sure the ink cartridge is full or new. Get to the "Maintenance" page and try an alinement. (The ink dries and will clog the jets if not used often enough.)

My brother DCP-J140W printer ink box full .. please help how to fix it.

The Brother manual says that you are required to replace the ink absorber box at a Brother Service Center. This is not an item covered by warranty.

My printer wont print any yellow.everthing else is fine .the test print page is good exept there is no yellow test print on it

Hi Geoff, geez is been a while since i worked on a 110..... we were forever replacing heads on these under warranty from them getting stuffed from dodgy inks letting air in ink lines...

Chances are the head is requiring replacement which is not economicial to do, please ensure you using a full genuinne yellow brother ink and try to do a initial purge on the head ( i think from memory its..menu * 2, 8, 6, 4 then 76 enter, and 4 enter/ok ((init purge/all)), this will chew ink but fills the head and ink lines.

If it still fails the head is broken, it is like a micro toaster element and the ink keeps element cool, if air gets in the ink line the head overheads and the element breaks in any of the four colour chambers. This is not a repairable part nor is it cheap or easy to replace and also requires programming and a purge of about 1/4 of each colour ink.

Please let me know if you can do a purge and what brand inks you are using and what inks and what happened prior to the yellow issue.
Cheers

I have a problem with print quality of my Brother printer mFC-6490CW, I have run the ink management utility, the black, yellow and magenta printed to about 95% just one dotted line missing on the black,...

Well, this is a common problem with people who purchase Brother printers, but do not always use Brother Ink Cartridges. Brother has a cleaning agent in the print cartridge and the compatibles do not.

"If you have a lack of one (or more) color do the following:

Make sure all carts are full, placed well and are secured. Insert a new ORIGINAL BROTHER CART for the one that shows no color.

Press menu then start bk-copy then four times arrow up quick after another. machine will switch into maintenance mode and all lights will flash. Press 7 then 6 then 4 then start bk-copy. machine will initialize the carts and refresh ink within tubes and print head. After that it does some power cleaning. When finished press 7 then 6 then 3 then start bk-copy. machine will run a power purge. when finished press 9 then 9 to leave the maintenance mode. do run a quality test print.

This should clean the lines out and clear up your issue.

Colour ink not printing

If the printer is printing blank pages, make sure you are using the correct printer driver and make sure the paper size is correctly selected in the driver. If the printer is printing black only, the "Ink" option in the printer driver may be set to "Black" instead of "Color" or a setting in the software may be set to print black only. Also, the print head nozzles may be clogged.

A head cleaning and nozzle check must be performed as a cycle. After printing a nozzle check, examine the printed dot pattern. Each staggered horizontal and straight vertical line should be complete, with no gaps in the dot pattern. If there are gaps in the dot pattern, continue with another cycle. Perform up to 3 cycles if necessary. If the nozzle check is not printing completely, and if the head cleanings do not help the nozzle check pattern to print completely, turn the printer off overnight and try the cleaning cycles again.

Try a new ink cartridge. Also, make sure you are using a genuine ink cartridge and has the same number as your old catridge.

  6. Closely examine the print quality of the four color blocks that are formed by short diagonal lines on the Test Sheet.
If all lines are clear and visible, press 1 (YES) and press Stop/Exit.
If you can see missing short lines, press 2 (NO) and go to Step 7.
  7. The display will then ask you if the print quality is OK for black and three colors. Press 2 (NO) for black or three colors with the problem.

If the print quality of the 4 color blocks is OK, press 1 (YES).
Setting the Alignment:
  1. Press the Ink or Ink Management key on the control panel.

  6. Examine the 600 DPI and 1200 DPI test prints on the Alignment Check Sheet. If the number 5 sample of both the 600 DPI and 1200 DPI most closely matches the 0 sample, press 1 (YES).
If one of the other samples is a better match for the 0 sample, press 2 (NO). The display will then prompt you to select the sample that most closely matches the 0 sample for 600 DPI and then 1200 DPI.
  7. Press Stop/Exit.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please RATE it.
    Thanks, Joe
