Hold down "mode" until it shows you the current time. the seconds should be flashing. then keep pressing "mode" until you get the date. pressing adjust will change the date, pressing start/stop will change from the month to the date, or vice verca.
Try the link above for a manual. It is NOT the same watch, but does have some buttons named similarly to the 1440. Go to the Time and Date section. The key was to hold down the SET button till the seconds flashes, then use START/SPLIT to adjust the value and MODE to toggle to the next field etc. Best of luck
