I wouldnt like to be dropping mine on the floor, unless there was no other option, you just got to be patient here and you usually find an answer.I fixed my son's 605 4 GB had Recovery code (104) on it These are the steps i followed
* Use the computer for this process that you always used for this archos
* Download the firware Upgrade 2.1
* Plug the Archos to Pc
* When the white screen comes up do format
* Wait until all done then put the firmware in to the root sector of the Archos
* Safely remove the usb for Archos from your pc first and then unplug the cable.
* Do not pick any option on the Archos screen
* Just turn it off from the power button by holding it until it turns off
* Wait about 5 minutes and plug in back to pc
* it will come up with white screen again but this time it will start Update you will see the progress bar moving wait until it is all done and it will shut off. Turn it back on Your archos will be back to normal.
When you go to download from Archos site it will explain how to download depending upon how your device pops up on your Pc.
Hope this helps

Transcend jet flash v33

Hi Virus or Trojans can run some process that keeps running in background. This not only harms the computer, but also prevents the pen drive from formatting as it shows that the drive is in use. Remove and re-insert the pen drive, don't double click on drive and cancel autorun operations if it starts automatically. Run a virus scan on pen drive, this will help fix the issue. Now format the pen drive.

How to fix No Bootable Media Error Message

FAT (File Allocation Table) is one of the most widely used file systems used now-a-days with various versions of Windows operating systems and memory cards. Every logical partition contains a FAT that consists of file allocation information and the information of free allocation units that need to be assigned to files. Although the FAT file system is reliable, corruption still occurs due to various reasons. In such situations of FAT corruption, your system becomes unbootable, resulting into inaccessibility of data saved in FAT based hard drive. To access the data after FAT file system damage, an easy way is to restore the data from an updated backup. But, with inaccessibility of data backup or backup falling short to restore the required data, an ideal option left is to use an advanced FAT Data Recoveryapplication that can recover the lost data.

To illustrate the above scenario, consider a practical case the below error message pops up when you attempt to boot your system:

“No Bootable Media”

As the above error message appears at the time of booting the system, you wont be able to access the data saved in the hard drive.

Cause:

The above error message because the FAT file system has been corrupted. Few main causes for file system damage are improper system shutdown, human errors, and virus attack.

Resolution:

To isolate the above error message and to access the data after the above error message appears, you will need to follow the below steps:

Run CHKDSK utility to repair the FAT file system. If the problem persists, format the hard drive.

While the latter resolution resolves the above error message completely, it also deletes the data saved on your hard drive. In such cases, if the backup is not available, then you can only recover your formatted data by using an advanced third-party FAT Data Recovery software.

A FAT Partition Recovery utility thoroughly scans a FAT based hard drive and recovers almost all data, even after formatting. The data recovery utility can be downloaded from the Internet.

Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery is an efficient FAT Partition Recovery tool that recover lost, deleted, and formatted data from both FAT (FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, VFAT) and NTFS (NTFS, and NTFS5 ) based hard drives. The detailed help manual attached with the tool allows even a new user to perform recovery easily without any technical knowledge. It supports Windows 7, Vista, XP, 2003, and 2000.

Recovery (code 104)

From Archos' support website FAQ:

When I switch on my Archos device, the following message is displayed: "Would you like to recover your system?" What does it mean and what should I do?

You are on the recovery mode screen. It means that your hard drive has been damaged and must be repaired or formatted.
With this system recovery mode, you will have to select between "Repair Disk" and "Format Disk".
Start by selecting "Repair Disk" and follow the instructions displayed on the screen. See the full PDF manual (available on the Archos web site) on how to use the Repair and Format options.

If repairing the disk did not work, try formatting the disk by selecting "Format Disk". Note that the formatting will erase all data.

If you still cannot restart your Archos after trying a system recovery, you should contact Archos technical support.

Can a damaged hard drive cluster be repaired?

Absolutely; Hard drives can be repaired and bad sectors/clusters can also be recovered, however; If the drive is suffering from a mechanical failure and or not powering up, this will indicate that the faults are way past the repair stage.

Now, if the drive is recognized by the bios and it dose spin, this will indicate that it can very well be repaired. The draw back to such repair will be the time consuming effect. This type of recovery effort will consume massive amounts of time, and may not be economical to achieve, in this case.

For example; An 80GB drive can take a week or more, depending on the number of bad sectors found that need to be recovered or repaired, to achieve positive results. Once the repair/recovery has been administered, you will need to download a very low level formatting application, via the manufactures website, to test and format the repaired drive. After the formatting stage, the "fdisk" command must be ran to test the stability of the newly repaired drive and its partitioning factors. Once that is done, i would attempt to reboot and attempt to run a standard format command under an unconditional option(/u).

In most cases, this repair or recovery attempt will fail. It all depends on how much time you have to burn and how bad the damage is, at this point.

Won't start

Boot using Recovery CD and run chkdsk /R C: to fix errors then reboot.

You may have to install a 2nd copy of XP which will trash the first copy but at least leave your data files intact.
