Have gone to HP's website and downloaded and tried to install there fixes for Vista. However after more than three weeks of HP's help, I am no closer to a solution.
I receive a Fatal Error during the installation:
The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2753. Please go to http://www.hp/com/support for troubleshooting information about "Fatal Error" and "MSI.dot4wrp.01"
This error message is followed by another message:
First, thank you for your response to this problem. I have CCleaner installed along with RegistryBooster. I have used CCleaner to clean the registry, but not RegistryBooster which presents many more registry problems than CCleaner. I did delete a couple of keys related to HP (which were listed in RegistryBooster but not CCleaner) using RegEdit.

If you are trying to install the driver for the Broadcom ethernet NIC that was pre-installed (NOT an ethernet card that you purchased and installed yourself), there is a softpack (updated driver installation) download available from HP/Compaq. It will install the driver automatically for you, just download it from the link below and run the ".exe" file.

Go here to and click on your specific model, then click on 'Software & Driver downloads', then your Operating System, and you should now be able to download the correct driver package for your printer. I hope that helps. Bundled software with printers and other devices is often out-of-date.
I had the same problem. I could print, but not scan.
However, if you open up Paint and go to file and scan, it will scan your document. For some reason, using the scan button on the printer itself will not work with Vista, but using Paint will. I also heard that using Windows fax and scan will also work.
