Flickering contrast When watching my Phillips 42PF9631D ( bought 12 months ago ) the contrast in some scenes 'flickers' from lighter to darker for no reason..I have to adjust the contrast to quite low levels before it stops..any suggestions? I tried most all adjustments I can think of... Thanks

Replace the LED back lights strips.

A number of possible reasons--from brightness/contrast set too high to a issue with the power supply of the set--a expert would have to examine the set--you might want to call Sony to see if known issue with this model.

when it flickers is it lines that go up and down or across the screen or is it flickering bewteen lighter and darker?

This set is getting close to 8 yrs old, chances are its not worth repairing, its been out of warranty for a really long time, look for a new TV

Are they actually flickering on and off?- or just sort of Twirling patterns of lighter and darker shade of light? -- That is normal when the bulbs are new-- That should become steady in a few days.

If not-- tell us more what is happening-- in detail.

Sounds like an issue with the power board or the wire harnesses from the power board to lcd control boards

Im sorry but did you figure this out yet. my tv just did this today too. it broke now.

Hi, sounds like you`ll need that tech again, your description sounds like a bad color wheel, if you let it continue and it shatters it can & probably will destroy your light tunnell, sorry for the bad news but now you know not to keep running the set, this is a very common problem with dlp`s and it`s exactly why we tell our customers not to purchase dlp`s, gl, video-tek

I have the same problem when going to dark scenes from a bright scene or during channel changes. Sharp sent a tech under warranty and he installed new software to no avail. He called sharp tech support and they suggested turning on opc. The TV works fine but you must adjust sharpness and contrast to achieve an acceptable picture. I paid $868.00 for the set a Sam's club and will buy an extended warranty. I will not buy another sharp. My 40" sony works perfectly.

The top y drive cable is loose or dirty. Delicate job to fix.
