No display radio works but unit has no display

If your vehicle has a removable radio head unit, disconnect it and then reconnect it. The contacts may be loose.

It is a common issue. there is no easy fix. The radio will have to be repaired or replaced. The least costly option is an aftermarket unit. You can have new unit installed for less than $150usd

The 2003 - 2005 Accord CD/Radio unit is prone to display failure. Honda had issued a TSB some years back but you may be beyond the warranty period. We repair this display issue. Check it out: www.autoclockrepair.com

If the radio works, but the display doesn't the bulb is burned out, I think removing the radio is necessary to replace it. I would see it as an excellent opportunity to upgrade sound systems and go with an aftermarket unit that will interface with your Ipod.

Note: The problem you are describing may not be simply programming. The radio problem may be non-reversible. You might also try a new battery, or switch the battery from the other unit for a test, just to see if the battery is bad.

is sounds like the antenna cable is not plugged into the head unit. Pull it out and check.

Honda has a problem with the PCB board in the radio, See your Honda dealer for repair info. Service bulletin 04-027 says:

"In some audio units, a component failure on the PCB
(printed circuit board) could cause the audio display to
become dark or dim, and prevent the audio/HVAC
panel buttons from illuminating.
To ensure that customers have adequate warranty
coverage for this potential problem, American Honda is
increasing the warranty on the audio unit display to
7 years or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first. For
other defects the standard 3 years or 36,000 miles
warranty applies, whichever occurs first."

I can see where this feature can seem somewhat inconsistent. But if you think of it like a phone ringing, it is easier to understand. Once you have answered the phone, the phone stops ringing. And the person who called you never experiences a ring on their end.

Since the repair fixed it for 3 months and it appears to be doing the same thing, repeat the process but be sure to put anti-oxident solution (if Radio Shack does not have, try a real radio parts store in person or online) on the ends of the cable so the metal will not "rust" so soon.
