Windows XP-Home, As soon as I start up the unit, it cycles through and immediately goes into the Norton backup process, and freezes. I can't seem to find a way to interrupt the cycle to access the C drive. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Boot into Safe Mode by pressing F8 during boot and...
Try
disabling startup programs. Go to Start > Run (search in Win 7) and type
MSConfig. In Startup tab, uncheck anything that you don't want Windows to
load automatically. It will make Windows boot faster and use less resources
while running. This just disables them in startup. Programs will still load,
but when only you initiate.

Unfortunately, your system's motherboard prevents installation of a PCI-E card. A good PCI bet would be the Radeon HD 5450 (but make sure you get the PCI version, not the PCI-E.) Keep in mind that this will not make your computer a gaming system by any means. Media will be played very well, and you should be able to run most games at low to medium settings.

To get the most graphics performance out of your current system, you
would have to purchase a new motherboard, CPU, and RAM (your current CPU and RAM would bottleneck a faster graphics card). So if you want
to game at high settings I would actually recommend investing in a new
computer.

Done it myself, RAM should have booted up after reinstalling the RAM.
Need to check very close on the RAM slots and make sure the the one slot on the btton of the RAM stick is directly down into the slot guide as can be forced but end clip would not set.
If this does not solve your problem I would suggest resetting the CMOS of your computer as it may have locked it out, CMOS finds all devices installed on the mainboard and addresses them to prepare for boot.
I am sending you a link to the HP support manual page for your review for how to clear the bios and boot back up to reset the CMOS up again. You might have reset your time and Date.
Let me know if good to go or if you still cannot boot or have the "Orange" led.

Usually answered in minutes!
Unfortunately, it does get that far. Once I boot or reboot, I immediately go to the bacjuop screen and hang. I continue to press the F8 key but it doesn't release the system into a safe mode. Thanks.
Guys, I can't even get into the system to load any types of drivers. As stated, on booting, it goes into this Norton software, and hangs. Nothing else works. Anyone know where I can get a boot disk?
