Picture is to low

The picture is great but the bar on the bottom that flashes scores across on espn or any other channel that does you can read. It seems that the picture needs to be adjusted up.

Some sets have adjustments on the board for vert lin/verthold you may have to take the back off to access. May need to blow out dust to see identification of adjustment pots. will be marked on the board as 'vert'. These controls are affected by humidity and dust. will need a mirror to look at the picture while you make adjustment. Do not over adjust make small 1/8 or 1/4 turns either direction until the picture is as you want it.

Screen display mode

Because the broadcaster is giving you the bars at top and bottom there is nothing you can do except use the different aspect or screen formats that are on your TV. Please take a few moments to rate my answer. Thanks....

Picture too tall. How do you shorten?

Picture displaced vertically, picture too high or low
This problem was cured by entering the service mode (menu then 4,7,2,5), then pressing the green fastext button to access geometry settings, selecting VP1 (vertical position) and adjusting as necessary
Very low width and bowed verticals,no ew correction. R626 o/c
C630 (390nF, 300v) faulty, located next to scan socket. This fault can also be caused by R629 (2R7 fusable) o/c. In my set C630 was dry-jointed but not faulty. Check generally for dry joints in the E/W and PSU areas. Note that R629 is a safety component

Bottom of picture is cut off

Usually when the vertical starts shrinking slowly, it is due to capicators getting out of tolerance in the vertical output section of the chassis. If it can be adjusted out through a service menu, you'll probably need a tech with the right equipment to perform it.

Picture slants right to left

Hope you have fixed this problem by now, if that tv is unserviced, I mean if nobody has ever opened it, it could be a problem with the positioning of your tv, just tilt the tv in different positions and find out the position in which it will show the right fit. If it is serviced, especially yoke is changed, this is rare, it could be because the position of yoke is not aligned properly.
