5.1 sound from dvi/hdmi

DVI is "Digital Video Interface". No Audio is transferred through this type of connection - even if one end of the cable is HDMI.

BEST solution would be to purchase a video card with HDMI output.

Alternate solution would be to run audio from rear audio jack to TV (assuming you have an input on the TV that will accept it)

When using this type of adapter you only feed video into the TV/monitor
you have to use a separate set of RCA audio wires to feed the audio into your tv.

The picture quality is High definition. DVI to HDMI cable can convert High definition pictures. Good day.

Before connecting your devices...
The signals that enter the TV and connected devices will need to be output in the correct format using the suitable connections. Below are the different types of video connectors. When connecting the TV, use the inputs that are available on your devices that provide the best video performance.

hdmi only works in single monitor configuration. hdmi blanks on detection of dvi monitor. argh!

Yes dvi can output 1080p video. There is no signal conversation when using hdmi and dvi. Vga however has lower picture quality because signal conversation do exist.

This card only has a VGA, S-Video, and DVI output. There is no HDMI output. It is made by ATI, and only compatible with motherboards that have an Intel CPU. If your Processor is an AMD, this graphics card won't work with your computer.

dvi does not support audio extra audio connection required

This sounds as if the motherboard arrived with some form of issue. It has been happening quite frequently with ASUS boards recently. The retention bracket which connects the heatsink/fan to the CPU? If so, yes, it should be connected to ensure the processor remains cool. You are correct, you will need a DVI-HDMI cable. Not to worry, though. They have become quite popular recently.

This may not be DVI issue.
I connected DVD player HDMI ----> DVI ( Dell W3000) LCD TV.
Later I found that Dell TV version of DVI does not support HDCP protocol ( High Definition Content Protection protocol). So I could not play HDMI to DVI movies from my DVD player instead I use Y Pb Pr -- this works ok.

Hope this helps... I am not use PS3 enforces HDCP - I assume Sony linked with Sony Pictures would enforce HDCP on HDMI cable.
