My MMP8567 screen read ''boot error shutting down''.
Update the firmware. Download directly from Memorex site, Support section.
Everytime I plugged it in to the computer the computer would find it but then it would disappear almost immediately.
I downloaded the Updater program from Memorex but it couldn't find the player.
The directions from Memorex said ''Hold down the play button and plug
in usb cable.'' Another set of Memorex directions said, ''Hold down
the power button and plug in usb cable.'' Neither worked for me.
SOLUTION: I finally held down the LOCK/UNLOCK button and plugged in
the usb cable. My computer found the player immediately and a software
driver window popped up asking for a driver. I let windows search the
internet and it found and installed the driver. The driver it was
looking for was: ''player recover device class driver''
After windows
confirmed it recognized my mp3 player I started up the Firmware update
program and was able to update the player.
I tried to be clear and detailed. Good Luck ;-)

Have you updated with the latest firmware? It's posted on the Memorex site:

I also had problems with the error
message “boot error.” So I thought time
to buy a new MP3 player, but first let me try and upgrade the firmware. At first it would not work, so I figure make
sure I had the music I wanted on my pc and just format it. I formatted twice. Then I finally download the website from the
URL below and tried to upgrade it.
Then I installed the software on the
PC and it installed a program that tried to upgrade the firmware. At first it would not work, so I looked at
the directions which told me that the mp3 player had to be in an upgrade mode
or something? The first time it failed
so I tried again. So it had me hold down
the pause button disconnect USB wire from the PC and slip out the battery (mp3
player) quickly plug the USB wire back into the PC while holding down the pause
button and the firm ware upgraded. So
far so good and I put over 100 songs back on and it is working. Hope this helps

Try resetting the unit. There is a small hole on top just to the right of the headphone jack. Use a paper clip or pin and this will reset the unit. See if that helps.
