Old Craftsman garage door opener starts to close then opens again

Press and hold the lock button for 3 seconds. It should stop blinking and your remotes should work.

Opener can be closed by pressing only the ENTER button if the One Button Close feature has been activated. This feature has been activated at the factory. To activate or deactivate this feature press and hold buttons 1 and 9 for 10 seconds. The keypad will blink twice when the One Button Close is activated. The keypad will blink 4 times when One Button Close is deactivated.

It could be closing too far or the sensitivity could be set too sensitive.

Lube the springs, wd-40 rust may be the whole problem.

If the door hits and the opener continues to move until the rail flexes upward and then reverses - probably the travel adjustment.

Does the door close and stay closed if you hold the wall button down constant until it closes? - this would indicate a safety eye problem.

If the door reverses before it hits the floor or just as it hits the floor it could be the sensitivity or if the safety eyes are mounted to the track they could be flexing enough to move the eyes out of alignment.

Check the door springs and also remove the cover from the motor unit and check the drive gear. The door spring could be broken or the drive gear may be stripped.

The sensors only work when the door is closing.

Different frequencies.

What is the model number of your opener. It matters.

The radio frequency has been changed so the two are not compatible.

Unplug unit at power source and check and tighten all connections in the control box. And try this link.

Make a slight adjustment to the Upward force on the side of the machine. Turn the screw a 1/4 turn each time and test, see if that helps. Also, make sure there are no obstructions or friction when the door opens and closes. Try it manually first.

Buy new unit with saftey beams.
