Check the drum bearing, a load noise, and often spinning problems are symptoms of a bad drum bearing.

My Maytag top load washer makes a squealing noise during sensing only. There is no noise during washing or during spinning. It is about 3 years old.

A squealing noise during the sensing cycle of your Maytag top-load washer can be caused by a number of factors. Here are some common reasons and steps you can take to resolve the issue:
  1. Loose belt - The noise could be caused by a loose or worn belt that needs to be tightened or replaced. You may need to remove the front panel of the washer to access the belt.
  2. Idler pulley - If the idler pulley that keeps tension on the belt is worn or damaged, it can cause a squealing noise. Replace the idler pulley if necessary.
  3. Bearing - A worn bearing in the tub can cause a squealing noise. Replacing the bearing will typically require disassembling the washer.
  4. Drive motor - If the drive motor is worn or damaged, it can cause a squealing noise. Replace the drive motor if necessary.
If you're not comfortable diagnosing and repairing the issue yourself, it's best to contact a qualified appliance repair technician for assistance.

Maytag Washer HAV2558AWW loud noise during spin

May be the bearing in your direct drive shaft. If washer is a belt drive, the belt could be frayed

Washer will no longer spin - was making loud noise then started stinking as though a belt was burning and now won't spin at all? Is there a belt I can replace?

usually when the belt burns on a maytag it's a sign that a pump, motor or trans needs replacing. tilt machine back, remove belt from underneath & ck for restrictions in all 3 pulleys. If there's a burnt belt...replacing just the belt is a waste of money

Loud noise on spin cycle

most common cause for this is pump bearing on water pump. remove belt and attempt to turn pump by hand. if it grinds get a new pump.

Grouling noise in the spin cycle

First, check the belt (located in the bottom of the unit) and if it shows signs of wear (black dust) and shiny sides on belt and black marks on the motor, transmission, and water pump pulleys - replace the belt. The motor is spring loaded and acts as the tensioner up to a point of too much wear on the belt.

You will need to tilt the washer about 45 degrees and prop it to keep it from going all the way over (just makes it more difficult to right it later). Pop the belt off by rotating it while pulling the belt off the edge of the transmission (larger) pulley. Again, the motor pulley is spring loaded and will flex appropriately. Reverse the process with installation of a new (exact replacement part number).

If this doesn't fix the problem, you may have to call the Maytag Repairman. They would have replaced the belt anyway and would probably charge $50 + for the belt and installation.
