And can I fix it somehow or I have to replace the whole radiator assembly? ... Bosnia should be able to order you a radiator from the Austrian Jeep factory or just ... grand cherokee wj 4.0 4wd, year 2000, 160 000 miles. would you recommend .... I have a2001 and it had about 143,000 miles on it at the time.

Replace the thermostat and bleed the air from the cooling system, then if it still overheats you may have a leaking cylinder head gasket. Any shop can detect the leakage with a gas analyzer by looking for the presence of combustion gases in the cooling system.

would bleed the heater rad .the smell of anti freeze could be from the hose bursting and going on engine

Could be a hose leaking or radiator or water pump or heater core or around thermostat housing.

Is the fan working properly? Is the radiator flowing correctly? Does the rad cap hold the proper pressure?

I would just have the heater core replaced. One common theme with all repairs that are temporary, is ... well, "temporary" can mean "all of three seconds". All the stop leak gunk and whatnot will typically block your heater core up, making you replace it anyway if you want heat. Or you could take the heater core out of the loop, get an adaptor and plumb the heater lines together.

Try these troubleshooting tips before replacing anything else.

This is a common problem with Jeeps this age. Since there's no Heater Control Valve running down the hoses through the firewall, the heat is controlled through what's called the Blend-Air Door which is operative for if it failed completely, you would still have air deflected to the windshield. A thermostat isn't always the cure especially on these models. What you appear to have is a stopped up Heater Core. As long as you don't have a green liquid on the passenger floorboard, contact a local radiator shop and find out the cost to disconnect the two heater hoses from the Thermostat housing and "back-flush" them with air and water until everything runs clear. Don't use a chemical cleaner for if your heater core is weak, it could eventually start leaking and costing you an arm and a leg in labor costs to remove and re-install a new one. At times the no heat problem on Jeeps is that at one point or another, someone dumped a form of Stop-Leak into your cooling system. NEVER do that for the heater core is the 1st thing to stop up. Use regular pepper out of your kitchen for a quick fix should you develop a leak, for that can be flushed out easily whereas Stop-Leak turns into a mud-like substance. If you do have a hose leaking, then unscrew the radiator cap one notch to keep the 18 pounds of pressure off the hose until you can find a suitable place of repair.

Did the inside of the distibuter cap get wet? If so dry it out and it should start.

you may have a blown head gasket. if you drain the cooling system and it starts (it'll be very hard to start, still) then you'll know
