JVC 36 My JVC 36" TV will not power on and has a blinking power light. I have opened the back and checked all the fuses, which turned out to still be good. The TV stopped working after I tried hooking it up to a generator during Hurricane Ike. Any suggestions? Thanks! Dave W.

Hi Dave: "My JVC 36" TV will not power on and has a blinking power light."

That means that the protection circuit has started because a fault had been detected.

If this happened after a power surge it is likely a faulty PSU board.

Try first leaving the set unplugged from power outlet for few hours, this will drain power, reset the protector, and fix problem related to accumulation of electrostatic charges on PSU power capacitors.

If unplugging does not work, that means that there is an internal fault.
If this happened after a power problem of some kind, that means that probably one of the capacitors on powr board had blown, and must be replaced.
The TV must be tested by a technician to find the fault.

JVC Model AV-36D502 Blinking power light on start-up

you probably have some sort of overheating or short on the internal board - is it still on warranty? if so they will fix at no charge - if not, a local repair shop should be able to correct the problem but it may cost as much as $150

Tv just went off in use. Power light blinking, will no turn back on

Set is in shutdown as a short somewhere.

If model indicated here is correct someone has to open it and check voltages in power supply first.

My JVC AV-48WP55 only blinks the green led when plugged in. This happened after a power surge, during a thunder storm.

Have you tried unplugging the tv and letting it sit for a while then plugging it back in?

also.. sometimes i have seen appliances that will flash the power light if an internal fuse has blown to indicate a problem. open it up if you feel you want to and check for a fuse around where the power cord comes in teh tv.

Blinking timer light, No picture or sound.

Ur high voltage is dead, the FBT,the flyback transformer, the big black block of plastic with a red wire with a cap hook to the CRT(tv tube). That is dead.

JVC 36" TV will not power on and has a blinking power light...

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Almost always, when an electronic device/equipment fails when powered with and by a generator, it is the power supply unit (PSU). The PSU circuitry expects a fairly constant/stable power source (120 or 220). The output of the generator tends to fluctuate especially under varying electrical load. Additionally, the AC frequency (60Hz) of the generator's output also tend to vary which most PSUs don't like. A noteworthy point to consider is that the generator is floating electrically, its output has no reference to earth/ground.

If you are considering a DIY (do-it-yourself), foremost to inspect would be the PSU particularly the regulator transistor and determine if it outputs +5 and ~+135 VDC. Another to check would be the HOT (horizontal output transistor). If when the TV was used powered by a generator, there was considerable vertical rolling, the vertical deflection IC would also be a suspect.

A friendly reminder, exercise caution when repairing TVs. It stores up EHV (extremely high voltage). It would be to your advantage to reference a service manual (JVC AV-36D303) or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

Blinking timer light - no power

Replace the power board and it should work, it got a spike from the unstable voltage of the generator

No picture but sound is perfect

Sounds like the video output has a problem. Maybe missing the 200 volts from the High voltage transformer. The vertical circuit may have an issue. Either way it's hard to diagnose without looking at it. If you need a technician contact JVC online at: http://maps.jvc.com/cAscList/ Good Luck
