Whirlpool side by side freezer not working fridge is fine

GS5SHG my fridge is cold but the freezer isnt working light and fan are running just not cold and not making ice? Help

    We ended up having a service tech come out and the compressor was blown-but it was covered under warranty until 2-9-09, so now it works like a champ. Thanks for your help though

    When you say the fridge is working what do you mean? What temperature are you getting in the fridge. All cooling is done in the freezer and fan blows air into the fridge. What temperature are you getting in the freezer.

    grrr... my warranty just expired- OF COURSE!!! Dang! Did a google search because this is exactly what is going on with my Whirlpool stainless side by side. The fridge works, the bottom half of freezer works but ice- maker and top shelf and top door shelf do are not cold and not producing ice! I will try unplugging and cleaning out the back... pretty disappointed. Who has money for this? They don't make things like they used to, that is for sure!!

Dang! Did a google search because this is exactly what is going on with my Whirlpool stainless side by side. The fridge works, the bottom half of freezer works but ice- maker and top shelf and top door shelf do are not cold and not producing ice! I will try unplugging and cleaning out the back... pretty disappointed. Who has money for this? They don't make things like they used to, that is for sure!!

Pull out the fridge and unplug. Remove the back cover. Clean the condenser coils and fan. If they're difficult to get to, use compressed air to blow out. (you can get a can from walmart). That should fix the problem. If that doesn't work, then write back.

It's a circulation problem so either the fan in the back of the freezer(circulates freezer and blows cold into fridge) or the defrost element. If the element is faulty the rear ices up and air won't flow. If fan is faulty it's not blowing the cold air. Remove rear panel if no ice it's the fan if its full of ice it needs the defrost element(usually get termination sensor also depending on type) If you open the freezer door and hold in the doorswitch you should hear the fan running if its working.

Side by side GE turbo-cool Gss25XSRBSS, the freezer seems to be fine, the fridge is not cooling. Fans seem to be running smoothly, no weird noises. Turbo cool turns on. It hasn't been running for

this is a damper with another fan in it,when the t-stat calls for cold air the damper door opens to let the cold air in from the freezer and the fan in it blows the cold air around inside the fridge,if the freezer is fine and the fridge side is warm most likely this is your problem,part number WR49X10091 and it's around 130 dollars.unplug the machine,remove the light cover on the ceiling,remove the 1/4 inch screws and drop the light assy.remove thhe filter cover on the right side so you can remove the damper assy.pop off the cover on the piece that runs up the back center,remove the screws to the damper,read the instructions and put it back together again.should take you around 45 to 60 minutes.hope this helps and good luck.

Kenmore side by side fridge. Green temp light flashing for fridge side, freezer side working fine. Fridge side not cooling.
possibly frosted up at the air door between the fridge and freezer, or the fan in the freezer is not pushing cold air into the fridge side, if you can not hear a fan running in the freezer when the fridge is running (compressor on) then change out the fan

Freezer side of appliance is fine but the fridge side is warm
open your freezer and see if it's blowing cold air,or if it's just cold,if it's not blowing cold air it's probably the fan, u will find this right behind the vents in the freezer,remove vent in freezer there should be a fan if not running replace this should resolve your problem

Whirlpool fridge not blowing cold air but freezer
The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge.The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

My Whirlpool side by side fridge and freezer not working
Most likely, if you can hear the compressor running, the fan inside the freezer is not working. When the compressor is running, open the freezer and listen for the fan running. If you don't hear it, locate it and, with a voltmeter, test for voltage across the terminals. If you have voltage present, replace the fan. You can buy replacement fans at a local appliance parts store, internet parts suppliers, even ebay.

The strip between freezer and fridge is very hot
sounds as if you either need to clean the coils under the unit,they are clogged and unable to disapate correct amount of heat, or your fan mounted behind the unit, next tothe compressor has failed..YOUR UNIT IS WORKING EXTRA HARD TO GET RID OF HEAT.check those 2 places
