Dell has a good deal on a studio desktop pc Core 2 duo quad core but even without the monitor its 550, then you have to add a good video card, integrated cards are garbage and so is intel, so the good ones are anout $100-300 intel and amd

to keep cost down you could also go with a core 2 duo (dual core) but stay away from celerons they **** for gaming
check staples/office max/best buy/circuit city or dell dot com for good deals

some dell studio's are slim desktops and unless you get a video card from dell they can be hard to find(near impossible)

What is a gaming pc?

This question is certainly dated, but it is one frequently asked so I figure at least someone should field it at some point. My guess is that it often goes unanswered for a variety of reasons.

Put simply, no there is no difference between the two. They each require a CPU, RAM, a hard disk, motherboard, interface (mouse, keyboard, etc.), a power supply, and a monitor.

To the gamer, there is an enormous variance between the two. A PC is what people use for surfing the web, processing office documents for work or school, and other relatively low demand tasks. A gaming rig is, again, comprised of the same guts, but those innards are built for more intense performance demands that many games demand. The cost involved in purchasing or building a PC can range from a slightly higher price tag to an exponential increase. Those increases are based largely on performance and functionality, but like any other products can also be based in large part upon brand name.

Desktop computer starts and run slow

You can speed up your PC with the help of these tips given below:-

1) Defragment & Optimize files in the hard disk regularly.
2) Disable the unwanted start up programs.
3) Defragment the registry if needed.
4) Uninstall unnecessary programs (Games, crapware, toolbars, etc.)
5) Install latest Windows updates.

For task 1, 2 and 3 use reliable program like I always use "RegInOut" for the best performance. Remember that Windows need above to be optimized from time to time. So regular maintenance is required.

I had this router connected to my desktop so my grand daughter could use her labtop,my desktop crashed and I had to replace my hard drive and my memory and lost all information on the router and I lost the...

You actually don't need a setup disk for setting up a router. Try the following steps.
  1. Reset your router to default configurations by holding the reset button for 15 seconds.
  2. Make sure your desktop is set to "obtain an ip address automatically."
  3. Connect an ethernet cable between your router and desktop.
This should get you connected to the router. If you want to make any configuration changes, perform the following steps.
  1. Open up a web browser.
  2. Type in the address bar 192.168.1.1 (Default IP address of Linksys routers)
This will connect you to the router.
  3. It will prompt you to login. The default username is blank (no text at all) and the password is admin.

HOW TO INCREASE COMPUTER SPEED

Yes you can increase your PC's performance by following these steps:

If you have Windows CD, boot your system with it and reinstall Windows and install only required software. Reason: You have too much clutter of junk files. This will help you start over. if you cannot do this, read on.

Remove all temporary files: Right click on C: drive in My Computer. Select properties then Disk cleanup.

0fc6f35.png

Use it to remove unwanted junk files. Tick all the options in the list. Do the same with every drive.

Next, Press Windows logo Key (between Ctrl and Alt) + R. Input %TEMP% and press enter. Delete all files.

Restart your PC and defragment drives especially C. Press start --> Accessories --> System Tools --> Disk Defragmentor.

Change Visual settings:
  • On the Start menu, right-click My Computer and click Properties.
  • In the System Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab. In the Performance area, click Settings.
  • In the Performance Options dialog box, on the Visual Effects tab, you can either click the Custom radio button, and then select which user interface (UI) features to disable to improve performance. Or, if you click the Adjust for best performance radio button, all of the UI features will be disabled. Choose the option that works best for you.
  • Click Apply.
After performing this, you should notice a small increase in performance.

If you want big changes, do as follows:

Increase system memory (RAM) if your motherboard allows. Make sure that you buy a compatible module.

Install an add-on PCI-E or AGP graphics card. This will give it a real boost.

As a side noet, there are many software claiming to improve performance but I always end up with an unstable Windows after using them, so I advise you not use them unless you know what you are doing.

A DRIVE RAID 0 VOLUME IS FAILING GENERATION 2

> RAID

Rapid Array of Independent Disks

RAID logically combines several identical disk-drives for better performance or for better reliability.

For better performance, one RAID configuration "stripes" the data, i.e., when you write a block of data, the block is split into "stripes", and each stripe is written to a different disk-drive.
Since each stripe is smaller than the whole block, it is faster to transfer the data in "parallel".

For better reliability, another RAID configuration writes each block of data _identically_ to multiple disk-drives. Thus, if one disk-drive fails, your data still exists on the other disk-drives.
You can then replace the "bad" disk in the array, and use software to "rebuild" this "mirroring" of your data, by copying all the data from one of the "good" disks onto the "new" disk.

So, in your case, one of the disks in your array is failing. Identify it. Replace it. Rebuild your array.

Newer system with higher performance specifications

To maximize the best performance for your model, you would need

- Highest CPU 1.80GHz
- Maximum memory amount installed (2 x 512MB PC2700 DDR)
- Virtual Memory / Paging File size set correctly
- Use 1GB Flash Memory Drive as additional Virtual Memory
- Hard Disk with highest RPM (7200)
- Minimum programs in startup items
- Install FreeRAM XP Pro 1.52
- Windows XP Professional SP3
- Low resource using Antivirus (Norton 360 v3.5)
- Use Laptop Cooling Pad to keep components cool

At some point, if you want to have a fast performing machine to run newer operating systems, and a higher video card size for media and games, ultimately you should invest in a newer system, then adding harder to locate more pricey components to an older machine.

Adding new hardware to a desktop can be somewhat straightforward for a non-tech. Adding these same componenets to a laptop, is no so easy for the untrained, and can cause damage to other components, not to mention labour costs can get to be quite high.

I hope this helps.

Lacie Desktop Hard Disk beeps when connected

No much help I can give, when an hard drive beeps it has motor error or head error, the disk hardwar is faulty, and you are not able to recover anything from the disk.

A safe data recovery can only be performed by specialized companies on a facility called clean room, where dust is completely removed from the room using a vacuum.

The data recovery using this kind of equipment does not cost less than $800.
