Phillips 47 great pic for the 1st few minutes then starts flashing quickly on and off. Still has sound and when the picture is stable the left side (about 4" wide) is slightly darker than the rest of the screen. Could it be a bulb or dirty input ports? Got it for free so if its cheap to fix that would be awesome.

The reason the set was given away is the boards for this model are rather expensive and unless you have a meter and other equipment you likely will not fix it.

As to the other comment, power supply is possible and caps are also possible, I will give you photo of what the bad caps look like if you can get the set open.

The capacitors at the power supply section should be suspected. Contact any service technician.

SOURCE: screen is dimmed and flashing

It's the #1 plaguing issue with flat panel TVs in all brands. If the red light on the TV is blinking when this happens, It should be an error trouble code.
The most common thing to go out on flat panel TVs is the circuit board that supply power to the screen. Commonly called a Backlight Inverter Board. The Backlight Board supplies power to the screen in different sections. With a 47" screen, it maybe divided into 10 to 12 sections. But, I can't say it's 100% the problem because I can't actually look at the tv over the internet. I can only make guesses with the symptoms.

You have a few choices:

1. You can try leaving the TV unplugged for 30 minutes so the TV can reset itself.
2. If by chance the TV is still under warranty, go that route.

3. If you have some electronic experience, if you can find and purchase a Service Manual over the internet; It will help you diagnose the source of the problem and fix it by soldering in the new part. The Service Manual will give you red light blinking codes, circuit diagrams, test points, and part# lists.Usually, cost under $20. And most cases the new part cost less than $15.

4. Pay a TV shop to do the repairs. It maybe costly, but get an estimate of how much they will charge. That way you can decide if it worth repairing or replacing the whole TV.

I hope I shed some light on the subject for you.

SOURCE: no picture on left side of screen and bad picture on right side.

Hello:

Have the Digital board and logic board replaced. the most common problem will be the logic board assembly. Altho the Digital board can also cause this problem. Try taking off the back and making sure the LVDS Cable is connected tightly to the logic board assembly and the panel, (Scrn), The LVDS Cable will look like a small wire harness with two metal clips on each end make sure it is secure, try disconnecting it and reconnecting it again.

SOURCE: phillips lcd 47'' turn

Sounds like an issue with the power board or the wire harnesses from the power board to lcd control boards

I have sound but no pic it just a scrambled

It sounds like either the controller is bad or the color wheel or scanning sync encoder is dirty or defective. One thing to try is to reset the controller program by unplugging the TV, wait two minutes, then power it ON. The micro-controller will reload it's program from flash memory (which takes several minutes). When the lights are all OFF, turn the set ON and see if the picture is correct. If you select the menu and the picture of the menu is stable, then the problem may be in the signal coming into the TV. Regards.

Turn on TV and picture and sound are great for about 60 seconds. Then the picture disappears but sound remains.

I would start with checking the power supply 12vdc output, make sure it is stable with no ripple. If the power supply checks out fine, I would then suspect the main board.

Phillips 47" flatscreen sounds still

If the TV menu displays your problem is most likely not the Tv , but is caused by the signal source:
Cable box or connections. Reboot everything test using other sources like a DVD player to isolate the problem.

Tv turns on w/pic then pic dissapears light blinks 4 times

I have the same issue, we've had to change our bulb three times in less than two years. now we have 61" expensive paper weight. Our current bulb is less than 6 months old. The TV is only 2 years old and like i said this is our third bulb.

the blue light blinks 4 times. you get sound. then a few minutes the the picture returns... then it goes out, and the cycle goes on.

A solution to this would be greatly appreciated.

No picture, sound ok

I have a similar issue. Sometimes the entire screen goes black and sometimes only one-half - either the top or bottom half goes black. The only solution we have found is to gently tap the TV (usually the front side) and the picture will come back for awhile. It almost seems heat related as it only goes out after the first 10 minutes of use. There must be a fix to this.
