Posted on Jan 04, 2009

I have a Brand new camera, the cannon SD880.. I just got back from vacation and as I opened my camera it said memory card error, I then clicked the button to view my pictures and it said memory card us locked. ( It was unlocked though) I took the memory card out and it was unlocked... I tried downloading them onto my computer and It read no photos. I am very worried that they are gone, which would make no sense, is their anyway to fix this? how can I recover this problem thanks

First, do not try to save any more data to that card. Doing so may overwrite whatever pictures might be recoverable.
Then, download and run SanDisk RescuePRO recovery software.
Run it in evaluation mode first, letting it scan the card to see if there pictures are actually recoverable.

It sounds like you've got a troublesome memory card problem.
If you really want to regain your photos there, I would like recommend you to try a photo recovery freeware that can restore all your inaccessible photos back for free:
http://www.freeware-fix.blogspot.com/2013/02/photo-recovery.html
This photo recovery freeware has offered you four advanced data recovery modes to process almost all your data recovery problems, such as deleted photo recovery problems, formatted drive or memory card data recovery problems and even corrupted drive or memory card data recovery problems, etc. So, I trust this freeware will also do its utmost to get back your inaccessible photos back.
Read more detailed information of this freeware here:
http://www.geeksdo.com/data-recovery/
PS: After completely restoring back all your needed photos, you can format this memory card to see whether it could be fixed.
Next time, you'd better learn a lesson to back up everything important well in case of similar data recovery problems.

Try some photo recovery software to rescue the files on your digital camera memory card, here are some for your options.

Photo Recovery (for Windows)
Photo Recovery for Mac

Be careful: Before your pictures are recovered, do not attempt to save more files to the card in case the original files(your pictures) are overwritten.

I bought a brand new Sandisk 4GB memory card for my Canon PowerShot A520. The camera registers my other memory card just fine, but this card says Memory Card Error. I checked for locked position, and it is...

The 4 GB memory card is not compatible with the camera. It's a SDHC card (high capacity) and the A520 only supports SD cards. (The difference between the SD and the SDHC is similar to that of single layer and dual layer optical discs. Not all drives can handle both formats.)

Documentation for the camera is here: http://usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/digital_cameras/powershot_a_series/powershot_a520#BrochuresAndManuals .

I wish that I had better news for you.

Just purchased new Cannon A495 camera installed 2GB memory card turned on camera display reads"memory card error" turned off removed and reinstalled batteries turned on camera problem still exists

Hello Art, Hi, The Canon brand is known world wide, but if the camera you just got is new and defective, why not return it to the dealer, have them try and operate your camera, if its defective they should replace it. Besides I don't advice gadgets with warranty, let the dealer repair it for you.

Cannon sd880

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

FORMATTING

Hvae you tried taking the card out then looking on the camera for any stored images.

A lot of cameras will automatically use the storage card when it is inserted instead of the camera memory.

You maybe out of luck and lost all your pictures.

Memory card

Unfortunately, the A520 does not support SD memory cards with more than 2GB capacity, and doesn't support SDHC at all. (1GB max for MMC cards.) I know memory is much cheaper than when the camera first came out, but in 2005 2GB was about as large as you could get.

Memory card not reading in canon a75

So as not to spoil your vacation, go buy yourself a new compact flash card locally. They should sell them anywhere electronics are sold, including WalMart, etc. See if you can get this new card to work in your camera. If so, then you can work on trying to get your current CF to work, by trying to format it in the camera. If you can't get a new CF to work in the camera, then you likely damaged either the pins in the CF socket in the camera, or some switch that is pushed when the card is inserted (to tell the camera there is a card in it). It is unlikely you will be able to have this fixed during your vacation, unfortunately.
