I can not hook up a wire connected printer to my laptop

I think we will need more information to be sure to fix this problem, like the model of the printer and are you trying to connect to it with USB cable or through network (with LAN or with wifi).

in most cases anyway make sure the wires are connected correctly (USB) and download the below link to identify and install your printer if it's not installed correctly.
press the identify now button after connecting it with USB.

Make sure your router is set to accept Wireless-B connections...most aren't. Log into your router and setup wireless, using an SSID and security. Then connect with your laptop and you're good to go.

You will need to purchase a printer USB cable for this printer. They are relatively inexpensive and can be found at any store with an electronics department. I feel your pain on this issue as I find it very annoying that these peices are extra.

The flat rectangular USB end plugs into an available USB slot on your computer while the more square end plugs into the back of the printer.

It looks like it isn't an hp wireless printer. You can connect to the printer via a usb cord and download the software from HP if you want to. Another way is have the printer connected to a wired computer via usb and share the printer and then with the other computer on you could print pages from the wireless laptop to the printer.

Try a powered USB hub, this will boost the power in the USB curcuit.
Also ensure that in Device Manager, USB Root HUB, Power Management tab, that the option to let windows turn off the device is unchecked.

Hi, for this model you will want to use a USB cable, it will most likely have a square connector on one end (connects to the printer) and a rectangle connector on the other end (connects to the computer) the phone jack looking thing if for an ethernet cable so you can use it as a network printer.

You need a Centronics to USB Cable

this printer normaly use the usb cable

Buy a usb cable to printer in any comuter shop ( sutable for the printer)

your printer the g85 on the backyou will see below yhr bar codes where the power cord is four connections. looking at it from the back facing you on the far right is the power cord next to the power cord is the cord from the top lid second from the left i dont use this but i think it is the serial connection and far left connection is the usb cable the usb is the best on to use the two phone lines on what i call the leg or base far left remmber they need a special phone cord most cords only have two wires hooked up this on needs all four or it just want work right.hoop this helps

and what software are you using for print drivers
