Overheating When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are clogged with dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed air to do this.

I had just installed Charter Security. It said that it was protected but it was scanning for virus and the computer shut off. I cannot get it to come back on.

You may have a virus, malware, adware, a browser hijacker, or pups (potentially unwanted programs).

Download and install Malwarebytes and Superantispyware (Note: If you can\'t do the download on your machine, do it on a friend\'s, put them on a thumb drive, and install them from it). Then scan your computer with each program, and quarantine anything found.

Tap F8 when you are booting, select "Safe Mode With Networking". Download and install Malwarebytes and Superantispyware (Note: If you can\'t do the download on your machine, do it on a friend\'s, put them on a thumb drive, and install them from it). Then scan your computer with each program, and quarantine anything found.

C. If this process finds malware, to keep stuff like that from coming back, I recommend you get the paid version of Malwarebytes.

Good luck.

Blue screen prevents laptop boot

Most BSOD are caused by drivers, or software that is conflicting with another program.

Do you constantly get these or can you run it for a while, some BSOD happen once in a while, and you can ignore it, some will keep coming back, and some will happen every time and you can't run windows.

If this keeps doing it and you can't run windows, try tapping F8 to enter into safe mode, or get the option to system restore.
If you can get into safe mode, you can try a system restore in it.

If this happens once in a while, download a program called " whocrashed " this will read the windows dump file and help you find out what caused the crash.

The program whocrashed can be found here,

http://www.resplendence.com/downloads

Debugging BSOD is not a easy thing, and the error you have is a generic failure, any number of things could have caused this.

I don't know if you installed anything, updated anything, or if windows installed updates, you are probably set to auto update, so you might have missed it.

Now if you don't have a windows install disk, then the laptop should have a rescue partition.

I have no clue what this is, you didn't post any info, model. If you post back, with some info, I might be able to help more.

When going into safemode try selecting safemode with networking. If possible go to malwarebytes.org and download their free software. If still unable to download it try using another pc and download the program to a flashdrive/thumbdrive. Once the program is installed you will be able to run it in safemode. This particular program catches just about everything in it's scans and is a great supplemental tool to your regular virus software. If more assistance is needed don't hesitate to ask.

Mouse not working can't do anything.

If necessary, push down and hold the power button until the laptop turns off. Then push the button to turn on the laptop again. This should reset the laptop and unfreeze it. If this does not work. Then you may have a serious virus. There are two programs I would suggest you use to check on this.

Malwarebytes is a great anti malware program and Dr Web Cureit is a free stand alone virus scan that can run from a cd or flash drive. Attached are links to download these programs if you issued is not resolved after shutting down and restarting the laptop.

Malware Bytes Download

Dr Web Cure it download link:

I have an asus eee 1005ha netbook. It freezes constantly while I'm on the internet. I have maybe 4-5 open tabs and signed into outlook. When I try to close out of Internet Explorer it won't do anything....

These machines are made for a min amount of work but you can fix the problem. You need to download two free programs CCleaner and Malewarebytes you can download them at filehippo.com
install ccleaner first and then clean all history then clean the registry you can delete all reg errors.
Then install maleware bytes make sure to download the update then run quick scan and delete all the problems it finds. after this you will have to run these programs once a week this will keep you running if you download anything I would put it on a flash drive to conserve space.

Can't download anything. New Toshiba Satellite

I suggest you power off the laptop and restert in safe mode. As soon as you power up keep tapping the F8 key - this will bring you to a screen that asks for a strart up mode - choose Safe Mode With Networking.

You will have a screen in low resolution (large icons etc.).

From here you should be able to download an anti virus program such as AVG or Malwarebytes. Do this and update the virus recognition files, then run the scan.

When you installed the cam an OEM program was loaded at least for access to settings. Changing your laptop does nothing to prevent that program. My Philips webcam has a little program called VLounge that enables me to turn it on or off. If that program, which may only be considered a 'process' by Windows prevents me from using the webcam with Microsoft, Adobe or Cyberlink video programs. If you really can't find anything else running then uninstall the webcam and pay attention to what is being installed when you reinstall it.
