Doesn't matter,those signals can't get up to your study cause of the basement. when outside it's fine. try putting the router at a higher end, like on a stool or try the highest point in the basement. Or try getting some high gain antennas that will boost the signal.

Things to try:

1. Swapping the router from mixed mode to G only.

2. Raise up the wireless router higher in the room.

3. Move the router closer to the ps3 or the ps3 closer to it.

4. Run ethernet cable to the ps3 from the router. (clunky but 1ms ping times to the router does make seem worth it.)

5. Put the ole warhorse of a linksys back in and hope for store credit on the dlink. As it seems to have been working for you.

To answer your question:

Currently most things have built in G class wireless antennas. As such they prefer G and the N router eats into the G's spectrum. Not bad but some bleeding of channels is just going to happen and as such N class things will love the N router but the G class have to suffer a bit.

No, just like when you set up a wireless connection for the first time with a home network, you need to input the network key. As long as you have the key handy, it should work!! For example, when I connect my iPhone to home network, I see my network name "553c" and I "touch" that and it asks what kind of security it has (unless this has changed, my iPhone is 1st generation) so I pick WEP (you will pick WPA of course : ) )and then it prompts for the network key. 1. check connection by 1st pinging the network card That is go to the dos window and type " ping 127.0.0.1 you should get 4 replies.
if not then you need to check the driver set for you network card.
2. check the ether net cord with a know good one
3. reset the router by unplugging it and reboot the pc
4.Call your ISP to check for outages
5. check the power adapter it may be faulty.
