I gave this drive as a gift, the receipient deleted the necessary software from the drive (which it needs to function). Computer doesn't recognise it when it is connected. Tried technical support in Italy, sent the necessary proof of order/payment etc, never received answer. A year has gone by and I struggle with the idea that I payed so much for something that has never been used/usable.

These symptoms indicate that the AC adapter is not providing enough power.

Try changing the USB cable that connects the hard disk to the computer, this message usually comes when the cable is damaged.
