No picture, blue screen

We purchased a Bravia KDL-32XBR6 last night. Followed the instructions, but all we get is a blue screen. There is no picture, no sound, etc. We have a Direct TV cable connection attached, etc. HELP!!

  • bachrach2 Jan 04, 2009

    We have the cable connection attached. I can't find any button that is for TV input tp load the channels.ugh.

  • bachrach2 Jan 04, 2009

    I can see that we are on the correct cable setting (for us Channel 3), but the TV quickly goes to a full blue screen, no sound, nothing but blue.

Use the TV input selector to select the right channel, that should fix it.

    you are everywhere like fixuu!

    Then you complain in the lounge!

    There is an input selector on your Bravia remote, try switching input until you find right channel.

    If the picture is still not displayed, and you are using an HDMI cable, try switching to a different HDMI input at the back of your bravia.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Offhand, the "blue screen" is a normal feature of the Sony indicating a video mute condition. This is when it does not receive a video signal to display. A couple of ideas to consider:

  • if your Direct TV cable connection uses a receiver box and from that receiver box, there is only 1 coaxial cable going to your Sony TV, then use Channel 3;
  • if your Direct TV cable connection uses a receiver box and from that receiver box, there are 3 RCA cables (yellow, red & white) then press on SRC, Video, A/V to engage that Video input of the Sony;
  • channel selection is then done on the receiver box;
  • if there is no receiver box, then channel selection is done on the Sony.
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

A setting is not properly, cables are not properly the tv is not getting the channels from the box.

make sure you are on the correct channel where the cable box is connected to check the cables.

  • Ekse Jan 04, 2009

    it sounds like your tv is working fine but its not getting signal, wrong channel is set or the cables are not connected properly I'll look into this more.

KDL-32XBR6

Try resetting the TV by holding down the "up" button on the remote (with the TV powered on) and then, while you hold down the up button on the remote, hit the power button on the TV. This should do a "factory reset" which will wipe all settings in the TV. There is no reason why the TV should not "remember the last input it was on when it was ;last turned off. Also be sure that the TV is not plugged into a switched AC outlet, like the outlet on the back of the cable bix. The TV should be plugged into an output that receives power at all times.
