Make sure you tried all of the 5 R's first. If you did, and it still fails to restore, then it is REALLY broke, and you will have to replace it. You can check the websites of people who claim to restore iPod software, but I think that your problem is hardware-related.

I had the same problem with my ipod, and instead of ejecting it in itunes, I eject the ipod with the Safely Remove Hardware.

try this... Start a restore on your device and when some error occurs with some code,press ctrl+alt+delete and then in the window that appears,select itunesa and click on end task button.then restart itunes and perfrom restore again.this time it should restore!
