Should the fan in a Hotpoint FFA90 be running all the time on the cooling cycle as mine is not.

Have been having problems with the fridge not cooling, on dismantling the back there was quite a build up of ice. Have defrosted it and cleaned the drain hole plugged it back in and observed it go through a cool and a defrost cycle but the fan only came on for a second and has not run again.

SOURCE: Hotpoint Ice diamond fridge freezer both green & red lights on.?

bulmer...it takes about two days to fully defrost these units unless you take the freezer section cover off and use a heat source. If you do...be sure to protect yourself against water and electricity mixing....not healthy. See below for another note.

clean the condenser coils below the unit.

check for the amount of gas in the unit. It must be off for half an hour. Remove the back fiber panel. The big thing is the compressor. Clean off the largest pipe coming out of it. Plug the unit in...watch out for the fan! The pipe should frost up and then clear off or stay wet after about 5 minutes. It should not be frosty. If it is, you need refrigerant.

Note: If you do remove the inside freezer panel and defrost, you can see how much refrigerant you have in your unit. Start the unit. Wait 5 minutes and observe the coils. They should be evenly frosted end to end. If approximately so, you're good. If not, you're low on gas.

SOURCE: fridge/freezer cooling inefficiently

Either the repair guy did not wire up the heater correctly or he replaced the wrong part, if the heater was good it was likley to be the defrost thermostat...I would call the repair guy back to check.

SOURCE: my freezer side in the hotpoint side by side

You have a defrost issue. You can check the defrost circuit by pulling the panal on back of fridg. Pull the back cover, look at bottom left for a three wire plug. Unplug refridgerator. Strip the ends of a jumperwire and jump the terminals l1 to defrost as lettered on the board. Plug in fridge and watch as defrost element thaws coils. If this is the case then you will need to replace the fridge's control board. Rock On!!

Hotpoint FFA90 fridge freezer, fridge not cooling but freezer OK, was told vent proabaly blocked and to de-ice. Turned appliance off for two days, turned back on worked fine for 1 week but now fridge is...

i have the same problem. took apart the vent in the fridge at the top and thought maybe it needed replacing as that controls the amount of cold coming up from the freezer, but there doesn't seem to be any cold coming through. does anyone know if this is 'blown' through by a fan of some sort?

Fridge of my Hotpoint FFA90 fridge-freezer freezes

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

Fan not working on fridge section of Hotpoint Fridge Freezer Model FFA90

the problem is there is a build up of ice insid of the freezer .
What you need to do is take out all your draws in the freezer and you will see a plastic backing held on with about 8 screws . undo all the screws and the back should come aay and you will see all the ice built up . just use a hair drier to melt the ice and that should cure your problem.
