THIS WAS FITTED BY HOLCROFT UNDER WARRANTY FOLLOW SENSOR BELT SNAPPING AND WRAPPING AROUND CAM BELT, ALL VALUES ECT REPLACED, BUT WE WERE HAVING MORE PROBLEMS 6 MONTHS LATER SO TOOK IT IN TO A LOCAL GARAGE WHO SAID HEAD NOT SITTING RIGHT NEEDS SKIMMING, SINCE WE HAVE HAD A SLOW OIL LEAK WE TOOK IT TO VW GARAGE WHO SAID UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SUCH HEAD G HAVE BEEN SKIMMED
If you had a oil leak that is not a reason for a head gasket or skimming the head. now the compression and voluum in the head has changed a lot. all it being a turbo wow :( sorry. those engine leak a lot of oil through the turbo seal
Thanks for response, i hadnt made it clear, they skimmed the head because we had taken it in because there was white/grey smoke coming from the exhaust, they said there was water getting in through the head. we are stuck now as we have spent so much on it already new turbo wiring loom, 1st injector, absolute nightmare. I just think we have totally shafted but to far in it to give it up. thanks again appreciate your help

If the oil cooloer fails internely you will have a mix of coolant and oil. In the engine and in the Radiator,

this sounds like a "crankcase vent valve"issue this part typically fails in colder whether as condensed water in the oil freezes and causes the engine to seep oil from the crankcase itself valve cover oil filter housing at block,the main part is located behing throttle valve but you can see the plastic hose that attatched to the valve cover,if you were to have removed the oil cap you can notice a cream like substance which is a mixture of oil and water,this is conformation of this problem also this would cause excessive oil to be consumed.google this part to get a better idea of what it looks like and what it does as it is basically a pcv system,this should be changed as it can cause engine failure

the "sniffer" in this case is a device to detect the presents of combustion gasses in the water or radiator .... if there is a good head gasket seal then there should be no combustion gas in the water .... if there is even a small leak then the high pressure gasses will be forced into the water .. the opposite is true when you turn off the engine ... as it cools, pressure in the radiator can force water thru the leak back into the engine .... this also happens during the intake stroke .. so you would be losing water that you might see or smell come out the tail pipe ...the fact that the failure has happened a second time might indicate that you had a warped head or block .. or perhaps a micro crack or surface flaw.. those things should have been checked when the last repairs were done ... i am wondering if the repair shop might negotiate a reduced rate for the redo ... often heads are slightly machined to remove any warp or surface faults during such repairs (if any problems are suspected) ... a used replacement engine could have the same problem or worse .. so if yours is otherwise in good shape then it might be worth while to give it another go ,.. sounds like a good garage, hopefully they will cooperate ... and they might be interested in finding out themselves what happened ...
