Only makes this sound while in wash cycle. It clacks every time wash drum cycles back and forth.
There is a known problem with this GE model. Remove the front panel, look at the base plate below the motor. Can you see that it has been rubbing there? On that model the "front apron bracket" fails allowing the motor to rub againist the base. You will need to replace the apron with the new design they have out. Here is the part to order.
You may also check this by removing the front and run a load of wash and watch the motor.
Please post back your findings.

Your washer may be doing this because you use far too much detergent or non HE detergent. To solve, use 1 eyedropperfull of liquid HE detergent, or one half teaspoon of powdered HE detergent dissolved in extremely hot water. Try running a Basketclean cycle with vinegar to remove the extra suds which can STILL be lurking in your drums and lengthening your rinsing time.

It's possible that the tub suspension system is out of position. Open the cabinet top (use a thin putty knife in each front corner to release a spring clip) and watch the mechanism while washing. Try shaking the assembly to see if you can spot something rubbing. Hope this helps!
