Onkyo tx-nr509 Receiver not talking to Panasonic TV TX-L42E31B

Hiya, Please can someone help me as I am really desperate now and Onkyo still havent gotten back to me about 6 weeks after emailing them. I can hear the sound through the Onkyo when connected to our TV no probs, but when I connect a DVD/BluRay to the onkyo, I can only hear it, I cant see anything visual on the TV. I also cant seem to get the Onkyo menu screen to show up on the TV too so I figured the TV and Onkyo werent talking. I have just updated the firmware on the panasonic which all went fine however the same problem still exists. I really need to upgrade our Sky box to a HD one but cant be sure I can run the HDMI cable through the onkyo and actually see whats on tv. If anyone can help that would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Just to add, this isn't a sound issue- its a visual issue.

Hello, I am sorry about your issue. If the cable is long from the receiver to the TV it may cause video issues. Please try a reset of the receiver by pressing and holding vcr/dvr and then on/standby. When display shows clear let go. The receiver will shut down. Turn back on and test. This procedure will take the receiver back to factory defaults. Thank you, CB

SOURCE: onkyo tx-sr604 help

You said you tried hooking the HDMI up directly from the TV to each component, and that worked. How is it usually hooked up - through some kind of switch? I'm not completely understanding your setup here.

SOURCE: new home theater setup- no signal at tv using onkyo tx=sr605

This might somewhat help. Today I went back .. I went HDMI out of the Cable box and DVD player into 2 of the TVs HDMI ins. The digital audio out from each, straight to the receiver and things are working ok. All speakers are working OK. Sound isnt as loud or crisp but unfortunately I found no other solution.

SOURCE: Onkyo TX-SR606 getting no sound from HDMI sources

Not sure if this is your fix, but I had what I thought was the same problem. I played with my Onkyo quite a bit ensuring the correct assignments for HDMI, audio and all that stuff. Turns out I neglected to make sure the output devices were properly assigned. Many devices aren't default to output sound over HDMI. I changed the audio out settings on the cable box to HDMI and suddenly the Onkyo worked great. I know, I'm an idiot for not checking that in the first place, but maybe someone out there is having the same trouble as well.

SOURCE: onkyo tx sr804 receiver turns on by itself

I have the same receiver and the way to fix is simple. in the main board of this unit there are 5 connectors and they slide into other components like Lego. the issue is the king of material they are made of it's cheap. if you reseat the mainboard it will fix it for a day or two, them it will start again. the easyway is to re seat the board and put a fan inside of the receiver between the transformer and the inside of the amp pointing down about 20 degrees connect the fan to a ajustible voltage adapter and connect it to the outlet in the back of the unit. so it comes on when you turn it on. this voltage adapter is cheap. the adapters people buy for phones and or MP3's at Radio shack or Best buy it goes from 1.5v to 12 volts/ this way you can control how loud the fan is in side the receiver. i find 4.5V does the trick. The connectors on this board start to loose contact with some of the pins when heated. the fan keeps it cool enouth to fix the issue. I fixed manny these ONKYO 804's this will fix it. you just have to do it. the main board is inder the HDMI board in a Vertical position running from one side to almost the Power supply. it has 2 screws also holding it in the inside middle back of the amp. Becarefull with these amps 75 V at 23amp's DC is no joje leave it off for a couple of hours to satart working on it. Good luck.

I have an Onkyo AV receiver model TX-NR509 and the internet radio stopped working. I have a good internet connection. How do I fix this?

I see on Onkyo's website that the iMerge service was discontinued in late 2008, Stating that:
"the selection of Internet Radio stations available through Net-Tune will decrease and eventually will cease."
You may want get on the Onkyo website and see what services are available for that receiver.
