Clicking and power cycling

Hi, my projector does this funny thing where it will run for several minutes without issue, but then after being on for roughly 7-10 minutes it shuts itself off and makes a strange clicking sound. during this the fans are still running and it almost sounds like the unit is losing power or perhaps power cycling. Any ideas?

does anyone know what the cost for a new power supply is? I called sharp and they said that all repairs for this unit go directly through them. does anyone know if this is true?

Possibly it is overheating and saftey mode is starting automatically (Phillips/Panasonic)which will turn the overheated components off and leaving the fans on trying to cool the device whilst resetting the overload switch mechanisim (hence the clicking) Or possibly the power supply may be on its way out (this will happen between 3-7 Yrs dependant on use)and it is constantly trying to switch on the power supply until the power supply activates correctly. I would take this device to a quality repairer and request a bench test with a written diagnosis or report under the guise of wanting too know the condition of the device as u have just purchased it. If/when under bench test conditions the fault replicates itself your repairer will advise you of the problem parts and repair costs within the write up for the bench test or verbally at the time of pickup.

It sounds like you bulb is ready to die. First clue is picture quality. That happen to me and a new bulb remedy the problem. Bulbs are expensive though.

Compaq MP2800 DLP Projector

If the projector is not getting a source it might go on standby maybe check where you plug it in.
Projectors require quite a bit of power and should be on a single loop/outlet not hooked up to a powerbar with more things on it.

Hope that helped.

My Acer PH530 overheats and shuts down after 15 minutes.

Mine does the same. When it was still under warranty I kept sending it in to get it fixed, but Acer never fixed the problem (rather they caused more problems). I sent it in for repairs 4 or 5 times, but eventually the warranty expired (after they told me they would extend it from the dates of the repairs). I haven't found a solution. If you do please let me know. Anyway, I don't recommend this projector to anyone else. AND, I certainly don't recommend Acer's customer service. Their warranty is worthless.

InFocus LP130 Projector has intermittent power off

go into the menu to find out the lamp hours. it could be the lamp, but if the projector shuts down and not just the lamp, there is either an overheating issue, or a power supply issue.

NEC LT260's shutting down

I think I have solved this issue with my LT260K. I too had shut downs after 5 minutes of operation. It roughly followed a replacement of the bulb. I repaired stereos in the 70's and 80's, so I was not going to let the projector get the best of me without a tear down. I cleaned the fan blades, checked their operation. I checked the continuity of the thermostat on top of the bulb bracket, but found no apparent failures. I did find a possible loose connector in the middle of the projector as it seemed loose as I was disassembling the unit (see 1st picture). 7c58d4f.jpgThen I checked for cracked or burned areas on the PCB's. During this I scanned as much of the solder joints as I could. In the 'old' days, the power supply area could get hot and make cold solder joints. I found what appeared to be heat damaged solder joints on the auxiliary power board (Lamp power). This is the one that is back right of the projector opposite the power switch. It is a vertical board that solders into the horizontal bulb power board. I resoldered these and I am up and running. USE CAUTION, I would leave this to a trained professional to repair. This requires major disassembly.18d84c8.jpg

Epson ELP 5500 projectors

Hi technoteach

Will try and get my hands on a Service Manual for this model - in which you would find the circuit diagrams. This is a faulty Mainboard that is causing the problem.

Hi there

Firstly check when the Projector is switched on , if all the fans are running.

If they are , then it can only be one of two things - either the Powersupply or the Ballast that has gone faulty.

Is there any indicator lights on the unit that flickers , and also what colour ?

Take out the lamp and check for any irreugularities on it like discolouration ( vein like looking marks in either white or black ) or if there is any bubbles on the shaft of the lamp. In which case the lamp will be at fault and will need replacement !
