IBM thinkpad G41 won't run any programs

Remanned laptop for Christmas. Ran well. Now, it will power on, load windows XP. Thats it. Sometimes you may open a program, like control panel, or add/ delete programs, then it freezes. My son ran a Norton antivirus program through it, but if anything it made it worse. I can't even open Norton to find the results of its scan. Nothing will open and run properly.
Thanks for any assistance,
Chris

T61 won't go past the Microsoft loading screen

Press F8 during boot, and load Safe Mode. A program may be preventing a proper startup.

Try disabling startup programs. Go to Start > Run (search in Win 7) and type MSConfig > Startup tab and uncheck anything that you don't want Windows to load automatically. It will make Windows boot faster and use less resources while running.

This just disables them in startup. Programs will still load, but when you initiate.

Bad home key on thinkpad g41 keyboard is there an alternate way to increase brightness?

Try using Thinkvantage Application to adjust as follows:

ThinkVantage Control for Display Brightness
  • 4 Click the "Start Menu," then click "All Programs" and locate the "Access IBM" program group.
  • 5 Click "Thinkpad Configuration" and click "LCD" to open the brightness control dialog. Select the brightness from the drop-down menu and click "OK."
  • 6 Click the red "Exit" button in the upper-right corner of the Configuration utility to close it.

My Thinkpad G41 does not boot up, nothing comes up

Hello

Have you tried swapping out ram modules? This would probably be the cheapest. And, a faulty ram module gives a beep code. Try it, and let me know.

Kind regards
