Whirlpool gas dryer heat goes on then off then on again

Whirlpool model LGC66466AWO gas dryer pilot light is off upon starting the dryer. About 15 - 20 seconds later pilot will light and flame goes on. One minute later the flame and pilot go out. The one minute after that pilot goes back on and flame starts again. This is all occuring while drum is spinning.

Dryer turns on, pilot heats up, flames lights up but only burns for about 10 seconds. Then goes out. What's wrong?

Dryer turns on ok. Pilot heats up, and gas flows because flame lights up. Problem is the flame only burns for about 10 seconds. What's wrong?

Burner lights and goes out

It may may be the safety system for pilot light is maladjusted. There is a sensor which has to be heated by the pilot light or the valve shuts down altogether. If the pilot light stays lit then you check to see if it is positioned to light main burner.

Do we need to light a pilot light in order to start the dryer? how do we know what year the dryer is?

Hi,
No pilot light just a hot surface ignitor that starts the fire in there...
get the model and serial of your dryer and then do a search for the year... it will come up...

Dryer starts, heat up than the goes out

Faulty gas valve coils are the typical cause of this type of "cycling". These electrical coils are right above the gas valves and when energized, these solenoids open the gas valves and permit the burner to light. If any gas valve coils are suspected of being faulty, it is recommended that both (all) be replaced at the same time. Hope this helped and best wishes.

How do you light pilot light?

Dryer does not have pilot light.  There is an ignitor that glows when the dryer is started and lights the flame when the gas begins to flow.  With the front of the dryer off start it up and look for the glow. when it glows hot enough (or on a newer model it might be a spark) the gas should ignite.  When the flame sensor sees that the gas is ignited it shuts off the ignitor and keeps the gas valve open until the temperature sensor gets high and shuts it off.  When the temp sensor cools down the cycle repeats.
If no glow or spark-->bad ignitor If no gas flow-->bad flame sensor or bad gas valve coil If gas comes on and goes off quickly-->lint filter and/or vent pipe or outlet may be clogged or bad flame sensor.

Whirlpool dryer with no heat

Is the igniter glowing yellow? Look inside the pilot access hole and see if it lights up. If it lights up then goes off, it may be the thermal fuse. Once this blows, it has to be replaced. There are pictures all over the internet on the location of this part.
Good luck.
