Make sure the antenna has a good line of sight. Sirus works best when pointed in an Easterly direction. By default you should get channel 184 if there is no service activated on the radio.
All Sirius radios can be used for service only in the United States and Canada.
If you feel that the line of sight is ok and there are no obstructions from pointing your antenna either out of a window, on top of the car, or outside if it is used in a house, then try a different antenna. If you are using the smaller guage antenna wire, the connections can break inside during installation in a car from time to time.
If the radio is factory installed contact sirius at 1-888-539-7474 to see if they can see the radio on their end.

Umm.. Call the number?
Sounds like the subscription is out.
Could be clerical on their side, could be any number of things. But that's pretty simple. It says call the number, so call the number.
They may not be able to speak to you since you're not the account holder, so you might need to have your sister call, in which case, provide the serial number of the unit to your sister and have them call.

unhook the power to it for about ten to 15 minutes. hook the power back up and let it "boot" up. that should fix the issue

Welcome to FixYa!
Remove the batteries/power line connecting to the Sirius Radio. Connect it back after 2 minutes.
This will refresh the device without loosing any saved settings/informations and will unlock the channels.
Thank you for using FixYa.
Have a great day.

They recently updated all of the channel line ups, and since then some of the older receivers have had some issues updating. I don't know that there is a fix for this, however, if you look on the back of the receiver, your SID/ESN number should be displayed there (in addition to on channel 0). If you have them resend a signal, hopefully this should correct the issue.
