Do a search for speed test and you'll have several choices. Here's one:

Can two dsl modems be connected to one dsl line?

no they can not.
If you require more speed/bandwidth some ISP's allow you to have 2 or more DSL lines but they require a special DSL modem that will combine the speeds of 2 or more DSL lines.
I would contact your ISP or local DSL provider if they support this.

I have new direct tv installation. now my dsl keeps dropping out. i unplug the direct tv box and everything is ok?

It sounds like they have given you the base DSL service with the minimal speed. If they did, it won't be enough to run two things at one time on the same dsl line. Call AT&T and check your speed or service that was installed and ask if it is enough to run to computers on the same line at once.
Also make sure that there is no filter on your dsl line that goes to your computer.

Here is another tip; the longer the phone line from the wall to your computer, the slower the dsl service. Longer cords slow down your internet.

My DSL is terribly slow. I have grissoft and have tried that and also have done a disc defrag. What else can I do?

Run a speed test on your DSL, here:
http://speedtest.net/
When your test has completed, call up your ISP and see if this is a normal speed rating for your DSL. If it is and you are not happy with the speed, you should upgrade your internet to either fiberoptic (if it is available in your area), fast DSL, or cable internet.
Also post your results here and I will walk you through speeding up your computer.

I have an AT&T Modem; having trouble with internet connectivity

It is OK to keep putting the UN and PW in. However you shouldn't have to. I suggest having a tech come to your home and have them do a signal test both at your jack and outside with your home unplugged from your service box. If there is a big difference in the numbers then you're simply loosing signal due to signal bleed inside. This is a simple fix. Have them isolate some wires in your jack and place a DSL filter outside. Then your DSL signal will go straight to your modem and not bounce all over your home. This will NOT affect your phone.
